Just for laughs, I googled "MooseMom", and this is what came up...

http://ihatedialysis.com/forum/index.php?topic=2505.0

It's my "introduction" post...from 2007!  It made me realize that there are a lot of long term members here whose entire stories are unknown to me (and to lots of other IHD members).  I just thought it might be kind of interesting to have a list of "introduction posts";  there's a lot of personal history here on IHD for us to read.  And those who go and find their first post might like to see how far their "trudgery" has taken them.

I wish I still had 30% function left!  That sounds like a lifetime ago.

(Yes, I suppose we could just do a search, but I thought it might be nice if IHD members themselves offered to post their first post; searches sometimes feel intrusive.)

Here is mine from May 2009.  In it I thank Epoman.  I do not remember how long it was after this post that I came to find that he was no longer with us when I made that post.  I do remember sitting at the computer with tears pouring out for someone I had never met but somehow, through his forum had given me so much.

That was a really interesting read.  I did not realize that it all happened soquickly for you.  It is also fun to read all of the replies you got.  It serves to remind us of how welcoming and comforting everyone has been.  Makes you feel like someone has your back.

Great thread!
Here is my first post - September 2005.   I spoke of my 'fistula' - didn't know at that time it was really a 'graft'!

Woodsman, I thought I had seen your first post, but I guess I didn't because I see that I didn't reply and welcome you to IHD.  I feel bad about that.  I guess I just missed it.  And yes, what a difference a year makes.

Monrein, for all of these years, I had just put together some bits and pieces of your story scattered throughout various posts, so this was the first time I've read the whole tale in a coherent fashion.  I see now why your recent trip to France was so special.

Rsudock, I remember how hard dialysis was for you, and I am so glad that your first post is very different from your most recent ones!

I think it's a great idea to let people know your story - whether it's the intro post or your 8th one. I've personally kept the link to my intro post in my auto signature for this reason, so if people read something I say, they can look at where I'm coming from and then decide if I'm full of crap or not. I've thought about where I would post any significant changes to my condition - whether I would go back to the intro thread and post it there or if that would be weird. I'm leaning towards that would be weird...

Oh wow, Rerun.   :cuddle;  I know this may sound odd, but it pleases me to hear someone voice their rage, their disappointment and their fear.  I'm not happy that people have these feelings, but I'm glad when they feel confident enough to express them.  I think that's healthy because denying your feelings only adds to an already hefty burden.

I feel great sympathy for all those who have had a transplant eventually fail, leading them back to dialysis.  That must be one of life's greatest disappointments.

Thank you MM.  I love this site.  It really did save my life to not be the only one out there who hated dialysis.  I was so tired of people telling me to be positive.  I didn't want to be positive for a while.

I feel different now.  I hate to admit that I got use to it?  I don't know.  I'm just in a better spot than I was then.  The site was so small when I first signed in.  Epoman and Darlene are both gone.  Those two helped me tons.

It hasn't even been a year for mine, but: http://ihatedialysis.com/forum/index.php?topic=19947.msg335615#msg335615

Everything turned out so much better than I'd hoped, and in going back and reading some of my other posts from the last year I can definitely say that IHD had a whole lot to do with that! Thank goodness I found you guys; I have a feeling things might have gone differently if I hadn't.  :bow; :thx;

Riki, click on the 'Profile' button, then on 'Profile Info', then on 'Show Posts', then on 'Topics'. This will bring up all the posts you've started.

Well, stubborn and sarcastic haven't changed.

When I posted this, I wasn't mentioning on here yet that my husband had already told me he wanted out of the marriage so he could be with his girlfriend.  I wanted to do NxStage, figured I could get set up with it with him as a partner, and then figure out how to manage on my own.  I was afraid to say that we weren't still happily married on any kind of a public forum, for fear my clinic staff would see it and put a halt to my plans.

Gosh, that post was 5 years ago!  I read it with sadness knowing now what was happening between you and your husband.

Oh man, kitkatz, it's time for the annual bump of your intro!  I never knew all of those things about you and your story.  Amazing how safe we feel on this site.  You're right...the anonymity can be a real plus at first.

I can't help but wondering where so many of the past IHD members who responded to all of these first posts have gone.  There are a lot of names that I don't recognize at all.  I know one or two have lost their struggle with ESRD, but maybe others have moved on to happier times.
