I have had a functioning fistula in my upper arm (r) for the past 7 years.  I have had a few fistulagrams that showed no issues. My flow rates have been good.  The last 2 treatments I have had my hand and lower arm, (below the fistula anastimosis ) swell up.  The swelling takes about 6 hours to go away.  What is the future outlook for my fistula??  Can they get rid of the swelling issue with a balloon plasty? what are the options? What are the risks and pain issues with a fistulagram/plasty THX

1980 diagnosed with ADPKD
2003 EMERG. Bi-lateral nephrectomies IVC STENT
2003-now 3x/week 4hours each hemo at clinic
2003-2004 multiple complications /ileostomy
2004 reversal of ileostomy
2010 colostomy
2003 to now ,on transplant list(on and off due to complications)
8 years on list> said to be at top of list for transplant.
2010 RCA Heart STENT
2011 Restent RCA with Drug Eluting (70% closed in 3 months)
LAD stent with drug eluting (66mm long stent)
On transplant list again!!2011/3

I don't know if this is the same thing as I have an AV fistula, but with my very first dialysis my arm and hand ballooned.  I tend to swell with IV's anyway and my arm was laying downward at the time of dialysis which more than likely aggravated the swelling. Next treatment I elevated my arm on a pillow and no more swelling.

I'm wondering if you got this resolved.  i am new to hemo, and find that my fistula forearm and hand swell during dialysis.  Haven't been able to get any answers from doc yet.
