Renton woman attacked while receiving dialysis
By LEVI PULKKINEN
SEATTLEPI.COM STAFF

A Renton man accused of threatening his girlfriend with a knife while she was attached to a dialysis machine has been charged with domestic violence assault.

Describing the New Year's Day incident, King County prosecutors contend that Luis F. Hernandez-Perez accosted the woman during an early morning fight at their Renton apartment.

According to police, Hernandez-Perez stood over the woman as she received dialysis, brandished a large kitchen knife and threatened to kill her.

"The defendant assaulted (her) while she was vulnerable," Senior Deputy Prosecutor David D. Martin told the court. "Specifically, she was attached to her dialysis machine and was unable to get away from the defendant."

Renton officers arrived at the Northeast 12th Street home at 3:45 a.m. following a report of a fight involving a knife.

Writing the court, a Renton detective said the woman was in bed and hooked to the dialysis machine when Hernandez-Perez began arguing with her, accusing her of cheating on him.

Hernandez-Perez left the room, then returned with a knife, the detective continued. The woman felt he was about to attack her but was unable to flee because of the machine.

"She later told officers she thought he was going to stab her because he was standing over her holding the knife when he said, 'I want to kill you,' and because he was so angry," the detective told the court.

After she called 911, Hernandez-Perez said he was upset but had been kidding, according to charging documents. The victim told police she didn't believe he was joking.

Charged with second-degree assault, Hernandez-Perez remains jailed on $50,000 bail.
