I am scheduled for fistula surgery. The surgeon asked if I had had a Doppler study. I said no. He looked at my arm and said he didn't need one.  I can kinda see his point, but is this unusual?  Anybody else not have a Doppler/not need one?

Here's a pic of what we're working with, and please, no jokes asking for a picture from BEFORE the surgery!

My  husband also is blessed with great veins and arteries.  No mapping needed before his fistula was built.

The first time we discussed getting a fistula I was sent for mapping and an arm was choosen.  I went with PD instead of HD so I never had the surgery. Now, 4 years later, I am scheduled for the surgery on Tuesday.  When I meet with the surgeon he looked at my arm (which is not as pretty as yours) and said he would do a sonogram right before surgery and that was all he needed.  I was a little concerned about not having the mapping done again, but I'm trying to have a little faith.  I'm already scared to death! Hope yours goes well!

Beautiful veins.   I had vein mapping and it was all for nothing (in my opinion).  My first fistula in my left wrist didn't work due the the vein being "too small".  ???  And my 2nd worked up until transplant (never used the fistula) and the vein got big, but never  protruded due to the vein being too deep.  He even moved the vein up, but apparently not 'up' enough.  I'm thankful I never had to do dialysis, but the vein mapping was worthless due to the two problems I just mentioned.  Good Luck!!   :clap;
