Early Crashing

Hi...I thought I'd ask this question because no one at my center can give me an explanation. About a month ago I crashed (passed out) within 5 minutes of being on the machine. It's the 2nd time (1st a few years ago). I didn't have a chance to pull any fluid so what could make me crash? My bp started out a liittle high so I can't understand. If anyone does crash it's usually towards the end of treatment (which has happened 1/2 dozen times). And when I do start to "feel funny" I immediately call the tech because I go out in a flash. One time they had the defibulator ready to use on me because they couldn't rouse me--came to  just in time. Thx..

We go through phases.There will be long periods of times when dialysis goes relatively smoothly. Then we go through a time when my brotherś blood pressure is unstable at the beginning of dialysis. I have seen his blood pressure go from 170/90 to 70/30 in 15 minutes. But it is phases, not just isolated incidents like yours.

Ive crashed early once as well , hadnt pulled a lot of fluid of either . Sometimes i think its just our bodies protesting !

I think crashing when just starting is NOT a fluid issue - at least in terms of fluid being taken off - because you just started - not enough would have been taken off to really affect you (well I wouldn't have thought so anyway). If it's later in the run then absolutely it could be related to the fluid being taken off and not refilling enough - if that was a regular issue I would first try a profile like 6 which has "rest periods" to allow for refill, and/or a BVM to establish by measuring the refill if you're too dry as it is (and thus the dry weight needs to be reassessed). If it kept happening within 5 mins of getting on I would seriously be asking questions because that doesn't sound like a fluid removal issue to me. Maybe BP starting low? Maybe from taking BP meds on dialysis day? things like that should be looked at in my view.
