OMG after 3 years of waiting ive finally got my move !!! Over here we have housing assoc who we can rent houses from (after long wait lists and fitting the criteria) After moving back from Scotland when my husband left me (and stopped paying the mortgage on our farm) I moved into one of these houses ,but its in a really bad area , druggies, louts and loads of horrible vandals and as you know, it was no where near my mum. So for 3 years ive been on the waiting list for a transfer to near my mum. Well today it has come up ..4 doors down from my mum !!! Now im in a blind panic ..how am i going to sort this house out? and organise moving and dialysis ? I only have 2 weeks to do everything , thats all they allow you. Help ..any tips would be most welcome please ! Especially if you are in the UK and can think of anything that might help?

Sorry KS - I don't have any helpful tips other than that this is a great time to do a general clean up as part of your move and think seriously about stuff you just don't need and chuck it before you move......

I just really wanted to say how great it is you FINALLY got what you have waited for for so long.. kind of like getting THE CALL hey?!! This is great news because you've wanted, and needed, this move for so long! 4 doors down - that's awesome!

I guess good things DO happen to those that wait....

BRILLIANT news, KS!!!!!....

So glad to hear that the move's finally happening!!!!....

We moved into our bungalow four and a half years ago, and it was exhausting!... Thank God it's over!!!.. And that was BEFORE Mum went into KF....

The only advice I can offer is to look at everything you're packing... If you haven't used it in the past year... LEAVE it!.... Put it in a bag for the charity shop.... You don't need clutter...

Ask at your kidney assoc., or your local hospital if there's any financial help available to help meet the extra costs... If you're involved in a local church or community group... Have a packing party... Get a few people around... Feed and water them, and watch them do all of the work!... Your local shop will be delighted to give you boxes for packing... They have to pay to get rid of them...

When you pack a bag, or box, mark it with the room it's to go into on arrival at your new place... Pack a 'Now' box.... This has all the things you need as soon as you get there.. Meds, teabags, soap, food, pet food, etc.... Put some chocolate, or sweets into it... You'll be amazed how often your energy levels are in your boots!....

Talk to the Housing assoc. about the short timescale they've given to you.... They can't insist on you moving as quickly as a healthy person... They have to make reasonable allowances for the fact that you have this significant disability... It's the law... Remind them of the Disability Discrimmination Act, and their obligations under it!.... Be a B with an itch if you have to!....

Oh, have a chat with the RSPCA... They may be able to get your hounds looked after for a few days around the time of the move... You'll need all the help you can get!....

Kickstart, I don't have any extra suggestions about help for the move (except perhaps to be sure and label your boxes as you go along with the packing) BUT I did want to say how glad I am for you that the move is finally happening.  I know you've wanted this for quite some time and it will be nice to live closer to your Mum and hopefully that will mean extra support for you.  You really deserve to catch a break from the struggles of the past while and I'm happy that something good has come along for you.  I wish you had a month at least and I like Darth's suggestion about seeing if you could get a little extension, even another week would help, due to being on D.
I also agree about being ruthless with stuff you don't really use.

Thanks everyone , some great ideas there !  My head is in a spin ! where to start? that and keep up with D ! At the move time i may have to miss a session , i can just imagine how that will go down !! But surely just this once ? This is when i wish i was still on PD , at least i could do my exchange and then crack on , im so worried about having crap days at hemo now , then coming home and not being fit for anything.

Congratulations!!!!! You can do it. Moving is exhausting, but remember, it's just for a couple of weeks. Once everything is in your new home, you can take your time unpacking. Do an hour or two at a time. Set a timer, throw stuff in boxes until the timer goes off. Reset the timer for a half hour or an hour later. Stop and rest. When the timer goes off, reset it for another hour or two and get back to work.

If you can afford a removal truck i reakon that's the way to go. Maybe leave all your D gear till the very last, as i guess most of that stuff is boxed anyway

yeah on the moving! It is good to be out of that area. I lives in a beautiful apt. complex for years until new owners took over. "Slum Lord" was an understatement. Everyone that had been there 10-20-even 30 years ended up moving out. I now live in a wonderful condo and I love it. That is excellent to be near family. We moved kinda quickly too so for us the main thing was not taking ANY junk without. We simply threw out a lot of stuff.  The less you have to move the better. You can pack a house quicker than you think. Once you move you have all the time in the world to unbox. I checked the new house out & looked for what I might need right away & too a close look at where all outlets and fixtures were so I could "set 'up" ahead of time in my mind. You're gonna make out ok. Go at a pace that is safe for you. When you need rest, sit and take it. Don't push yourself especially on dialysis days. This will all work out and you'll surprised in the end. Movings always a big pain, but seems like you'll be better off in the long run. Your new home will come together quicker than you think too. Congrats on your new flat! (Isn't that the term you guys use? lol  I'm a US girl lol) Good luck!

Hi KS that is really good news, you will feel so much better knowing your mum is only a stones throw away. As people have said have a good clear out and only take what you will use, you have got no excuse now to do that. So ,pleased for you. Can you arrange to move on your 2days off from D, saves you missing one.

Lots of good advice Kickstart. altho I do like Reruns the best. Yes,it will be tiring, yes, you will be exhausted, but in the end, it will be all worthwhile. So happy you get to move and are closer to your Mom, what a deal. Good luck and dont miss any dialysis sessions .Not good for you.

On that short of notice, I'd go with Rerun's advice - sort from the boxes as you unpack, and see if you can get help with the packing.  Moving is the best way to unclutter your stuff!

My only advice is take it easy. Research says that shifting house is as stressful as losing a spouse. When I last shifted. I paid someone to pack and unpack my gear - absolutely everything. But still a nightmare. Never again. If I won lotto and was in a position to buy a mansion, I still would not move. Best of luck, and repeat, take your time.

That's fabulous Kickstart!  You must be very excited/relieved that you're finally moving. 

Now, write a list of *everything* you need to do and tick it off as you do it (and I can guarantee you'll still be adding to it the day before you move).  Also, hire a skip for a couple of days and dump all your tat into it (or borrow someone else's skip in the middle of the night).  Unless it's good tat and that can go to charity. 

Once you've done that, please come to my house and get rid of all my clutter too.  Cheers duck.

KS!!! Please do your level best to NOT miss a session - for two reasons:

1. You don't want to give "them" more ammuntion to claim you're being non compliant or something.

2. It's prior to a weekend - you really can't go between Thurs and Tuesday - it's too long!

I know it's not much time, but *I* would call the unit (I know that prospect is about as thrilling as a root canal) and explain the situation and ask if there is some way you can either move your session to Sat morning earliest, or say Friday afternoon/evening, perhaps going Thurs, Friday PM, Monday PM, Thurs normal(so your "weekend" is thus Tues and Wed).

I think you do what 3 hours? If you can even get that on a Sat morning shift, that should still give you the late morning/afternoon to move. Perhaps your mum could also help in this respect while you are at D and oversee stuff?

There must be a way for you to organise this and NOT miss D - I really do not like that idea.
