I feel like complaining~ Okay I know all about having to go pee while youre hooked up but last night was RIDICULOUS! I was sitting in my chair, and a man who I guess usually comes on the days I don't, came in. He is probably in his 60's. Well as soon as hes hooked up.. he has to pee! I would assume they would just take him off and he would go to the BATHROOM to pee. OH but NO. He demanded a friggen cup!!! A CUP! I see a pivacy screen go up which by the way, didn't hide everything.... and then a  couple minutes later a tiny cup of pee comes out from the curtain into the needle bin. I was actually really  disgusted. People in wheel chairs always are let off and taken to the bathroom if they have trouble walking, but this man wasn't and im just a little grosed out by the whole thing, and think he should have been taken off and taken to a bathroom with a door. I mean no offense to anyone here so please don't take what I write the wrong way.

karen547, You really surprise me about people being taken off the machine when they take short. My husbands unit would not do this, they would have to use a bottle or bedpan thing.

I would really not like to have to use a bedpan.  It is really difficult for a woman to have to do that while sitting in a chair.  I'm glad they take me off if I have to go.

using a bed pan is different. I just think this was wrong. on so many levels lol. even the staff was grosed out and rolling their eyes

Just to look at the other side of the coin.

Maybe the man wasn't feeling well at the time and didn't feel like getting out of the chair again. Just because he walked into the unit doesn't mean everything is ok. He could have bad joint pain or any other numerous conditions that you can't see.

It's been my experience at the nursing home...you ask a resident if they have to go to the bathroom and they say no. You help them into bed and get them all situated and then they say they have to use the bathroom.

I think the staff should have covered the cup when bringing it out from behind the privacy screen. Did they put it in a trash can?? (needle bin ) They should have taken to a toilet and disposed of it properly. Staff should never ...roll their eyes.... concerning a patient, this is being disrespectful and unprofessional.

I can't go if I think even someone can hear me. I'm on for five hr. Some days, I have to go. I hate it because from the time they take me off, till the time I'm up and running, they add the time on to my original time. Like I said, having those screens, I would be just standing there unable to go, but I don't blame people for not wanting to add 20 minutes or so to their dialysis time. Even though, if you looked, you could see something, there's no real reason to look. I think it's more about you than it is about him. At my center, the caretakers would rather go through the motions of setting up the screens than having to take us off in order to go to the bathroom. Either way, it's a spectacle and a big deal that can not go un-noticed. It's a shame, but it's a thing that's a part of the human condition.

I usually have to get of to pee during my treatment, but when I'm in the hospital, they will not let you off.  they give you a pan and you're lucky if they close the curtain.
