Well this year is the first time in my life that i got the flu shot. I never had the flu. Never had one before. Now, because i am on dialysis, not only do they want me to get the flu shot but hte Swine and the H1N1 vaccines too. I am reluctant to getting those too.
I gave in to the flu shot because my doctor was like "if you are not going to get it now, then you are never going to get one because i know you" a nd he was like "how are you going to write to help others when you are not even going to be here to do it?!
So, October 1st, I decided to get the flu shot, to my regret. Since then, I have not been able to get rid of my cold. I think when i go in for my monthly they are going to want me to get one of the other shots. I just dont want another shot unless i am completely over my cold.
I just dont feel comfortable. Would you?

Unless you are running a fever or have a major bronchial infection going on there is no reason not to get the flu shot. Only in these cases are they recommended not to be given. Having a slight cough, stuffy nose or runny nose - your still able to get the flu shot. The H1N1 is made identical to the way the seasonal flu is and it's a myth that you can get the flu from the flu shots. They are dead virus. Some people may get some arm soreness and even run a low grade fever post injection but that only the body reacting in producing antibodies to the virus. Right now the risk of NOT getting it is much higher then the risk of taking the vaccine as the secondary cause of deaths have been the subsequent pneumonia it causes due to it attacking the lungs vicariously. I have been operating Flu Immunizations clinics the last 2 months to the public and if a sniffle or slight cough we recommend them to take it. If your immune system is already compromised then the last thing you need is the flu on top of it. Just my 2 cents.

The flu is different than a cold virus. It is probably just a coincidence that you got a cold, but you should be checked if you are worried about your cold symptoms, although it's not unusual for it to last for 2 - 3 weeks.

The very first few doses of H1N1 vaccine are a live-virus nasal mist (FluMist), being given to high-risk folks like health care workers.  My neph has told me to steer clear of that form.  The killed-virus injections are following a few weeks after the live-virus nasal mist form.
