....diarrhea. I've had it for two days and I'm really feeling sick. What can I do quickly that will make me feel good? I'm eating watermelon right now. I figured it would be good for the potassium and the fluid loss.
I'm not on dialysis.

Standard food for that is the BRAT diet - bananas, rice, applesauce and toast.

Have you tried Imodium? Always works for me.

Sorry Goofy - it's a bad sign. I'd ring your doc if I were you.

I actually know what caused it. I ate too many blueberries and I believe that caused it. I thought about calling my doctor but I know he probably would have said to go to the ER. I really don't think its from the kidney disease.
I was assuming I was feeling sick because maybe I was getting dehydrated and was loosing potassium. I still feel sick but not sick enough to call my doctor. My back is really hurting by my kidneys but again, I know dehydration is not good for the kidneys. I've been trying to drink a lot of water.

Watermelon and Bananas are one of the no no's on the list of foods to avoid with renal failure. However, we don't know how bad your function is. Stick with clear liquids toast. crackers and use Imodium which is a standard diet in the hospital.

I think if you had too many blueberries you might have diarrhoea, but you wouldn't feel sick. The fact that you feel sick is the bad sign. So far on different posts you have said you need lots more sleep and yet still get tired, you are sick with diarrhoea, your back is hurting near your kidneys and you're dehydrated. Have you vomited recently? These are all classic signs of someone who needs to start dialysis. I said in another thread that I thought you shouldn't start if you didn't want to, but I've since changed my mind. I think the time has come whether you like it or not. I really feel for you though - this is such a hard decision.

I wouldn't advise eating fruit right now until you know what you're potassium is... since you're kidney function is so low and you're not clearing the toxins out - it could be a bad move. I agree with Hanify... I think we've all gone through the denial and it's completely understandable - but to us, those symptoms are tell-tale and we just don't want to see you get sicker
cause that's what comes next, dear.

I think the watermelon will not help your problem -
I take some little pills the doc gave me and it really helps -

I'm another one who said put it off as long as you feel WELL. But you don't sound well at all. I felt amazingly well before I started dialysis and I had none of your symptoms. Had I had those symptoms I would definitely have started without argument. Stay away from Bananas and watermelon until you have your bloods done again. Both really dangerous if you are not clearing potassium out of your system. Vomiting doesn't necessarily clear out the potassium. Hope you feel better soon. I hope you are right that it is just the berries but I tend to agree with the others. Again, take care with potassium with berries. I have had issues with my potassium and it is not pleasant and really dangerous. Not trying to scare you but it can do the most amount of damage to your heart in the shortest period.

I went to the doctor Monday and he said it doesn't sound like the diarrhea was related to the kidney disease. I was surprised he said that, especially since he'd like to see me on dialysis. But then again, he is a doctor and can't make things up just to have me start! He did say I was dehydrated.
I'm actually started feeling fine Monday morning; just before I went to the neph, of course! Thanks for all your replies.
