I slaved over my hot oven and made two Davita recipes that I would not reccomend to an enemy --
my kitchen got too hot -- 105 outside
Green Chili Stew -- yuck
All American Meatloaf - even worse
I am going to have to put canned dog food over it to get Yogi to eat it ---
I followed the recipes exactly --- do not try them usless you want your dinner guests to leave early not eat much and never come back

Zach has a good chili recipe - not green chile though. I LOVE green chile stew.

Zach's recipe is a lot like Texas Chili  (maybe too hot to cook it now but I'd made it before).  Green Chili Stew is a new on on me.

MMmmmm here's a basic Green Chile Stew recipe - and a little history:

New Mexico: In the fall when the chile harvest is ready all the stores set up chile roasting stations out in front.  You select your bag(s) or red or green with the degree of heat you prefer and the attendant dumps the bag (fifty pounds of chile anyone?) into the mesh cage and sears the pods in a very hot flame.  The buyers then take them home, and prepare the pods for the freezer.  It's a long standing tradition and a standard part of many families fall activities.

Green chile stew is one of the many ways the chile is used.  Below is one recipe; there are thousands of variations, so feel free to experiment.

Cube two pounds of meat, pork, chicken, beef, or whatever

Chop two onions

Chop three cups of green chile

Chop four cups of fresh tomatoes, skins and all, or open two cans of stewed tomatoes

Put the meat in a bag and shake with flour until coated, heat a couple tablespoons of oil in a pan and put the meat, chopped onions, and a mashed garlic clove in to brown. When the meat and onions are browned, add the tomatoes, chili, and two cups of water.  Stir and then simmer for an hour or so.  The flavor will develop over time, so it can be eaten when it is convenient.  All the ingredients can be increased or decreased according to taste.

I love to make green chile stew!

I use green salsa in a can, fresh jalapenos, and chopped canned peppers.

My dad does it all from scratch with tomatillos... Wonderful dinner, but it's too hot for that right now! Anyone have any cooling summer recipes?

I looked up those recipes, and no wonder they stink - they have no salt! Sure, it's wise to limit salt for us, but you've gotta taste the food. The meatloaf looks like it would be quite dry, and the milk in the ketchup-sauce makes no sense. The green chili stew looks way too tame, uses the wrong kind of meat, and is overcooked.

I wanted it to taste like Pancho's green stew -- the only think I eat there besides the beans, rice,
pepper covered in egg with cheese thing ----
I was disappointed ... :'(

I'm having non Davita fajitas tomorrow night.  There's a special at pico's with Micheladas.  Mandy, what's a Michelada.  It says a traditional Mexican beverage made with ice cold cerveza (yes, I know that that is). 

Hey, It's a 4th of July special.  I love specials.

Here's a recipe for one type of Michelada. (Found it on the web)

Ingredients:
*12 oz. Mexican Beer, non-dark, (Corona, Dos XX....)
*6 oz Motts Clamato
*2 dashes of premium worcestershire sauce (Lea & Perrins)
*2 dashes Tabasco brand hot sauce
*juice from 2 non-yellow key limes
*1 pinch coarse ground black pepper (Mcormick or from a pepper grinder)
*1 pinch sea salt


If we don't get tickets for the mystery dinner show "Death by Chocolate" at Chabuca's, my husband and I may spot you at Pico's, DW!
