oooh nasty!

That comment sure doesn't boost anyone's self esteem. I think it's great that the people can get over the self conscientious of the tube associated with PD. It's a fact of treatment with this type of dialysis.

Now Sluff, maybe Duane didnt mean that in a bad way,  now if he would have said, ewww nasty, then maybe, but nooo, he said OOOOH NASTY, kinda like NASTAY ;)    at least that is what i am hoping how he meant it :P

Kathleen as long as your hubby is still saying that ... i am sure you are happy to see him. It took me along time to get use to the cath hanging out of my belly. My husband has never cared but I did. My self-esteem went down hill fast. Trying to resume a "normal" life on dialysis is not always easy. Slowly I learnt not to worry anymore.   ::)   8)

Hubby's cath is a part of him, I don't think nothing of it. I know if I was on pd hubby would think the same way. I'll be honest with ya, it has never bother me at all.

When i was on dialysis the first time i was married. I had a catheter i always called "tubage". It was in my chest and hung out a bit. I was very self conscience about it. My ex wife and were not having sex at the time. I knew she couldn't stand the tubage.  I did notice my sex drive had diminished a bit. Although the Sports Illustrated swim suit issue still gave me a thrill. Now i am on dialysis for three years. I haven't had any sex in six years. I asked for some Viagra but was told it would hurt my heart. It seems blood pressure meds. and dialysis hurt the sex drive. Now i look at a sports illustrated swim suit issue and think "They might as well be farm animals in swim suits." The only "thrill i feel is in my fistula!"

i am a 51 year old male on dialysis for 3 years now. This is my second time. My brother donated a kidney to me about 13 years ago. I found this site on another site. I had to laugh when i saw what it was called. I hope to meet people from all over to talk about dialysis.

I have been on prednisone for 9 years and have had no problem with my sex drive.  My fiance is always complaining that I have too much of a sex drive.  I tell him he should count himself lucky.  I did have problems with self esteem because of all the changes my body has gone through, but that all goes away when the lights go off.  ;)

Talk about a low body image over here.   Thank God the hubby loves me as I am. I hate the way I look right now and I have to do something about it.

Lucky you! :)

I was put on prednisone when I was 12, before I developed a sex drive, so the prednisone, while it didn't "ruin" it, it produes a hormone in your body that your body is supposed to let out to say "hey, your horny.." but b/c the prednisone makes it, your body thinks it already let it off, when it actually didn't so,  don't get the signal saying "hey, your horny!" lol.... I have to have a hormone Dr do blood tests and give me a hormone, however I don't even have a partner at the moment, so thats last on my list of things to do.  :lol;

I have already though of having sex on dialysis when I start it at home.  Don't know if my fiance will be game for it though.  The only thing that scares me is all the tubing.  I think having sex while hooked up to the machine is the ultimate way of saying "Screw you...you think you can keep me from doing what i want, when I want.  Dialysis is not gonna keep me down"

I've never done it while hooked up, that would be way too uncomfortable, but I have done it just after and just before!
Just gotta pick your times, when you are both ready and physically comfortable with it.

I think it would put the nurses and techs into shock at the center. Not to mention what the patients  next to me might think! Plus those chairs are not made for two to be in at once.  Hmmm... ;D >:D it just would be too much!

Kit. You don't do it side by side. You do it one on top of the other. With that, the chairs
would be just wide enough to do it. They DO have curtains too. Of course there may be
some loud noises, but considering what's been reported by other members, I'd say it
wouldn't be any worse that that. Depends upon how enthusiastic you get, I suppose....
