What's for supper?

I got really used to hospital food myself .. but I missed fast food and a home cooked meal

Hopefully I can fix that with some of my good old fashioned, home cookin.

A trip to the Olive Garden for Spaghetti with meatballs, Italian salad, bread sticks, and iced tea.  Always yummy and for the first time I dosed my Novolog perfectly and ended up right on target after all was done.

I bought two chicken legs and some coleslaw for dinner.  I took one bite of the chicken and then realized I needed to mail a package.  I thought I put it in the fridge but I guess I didn't.  I came home to a pile of foil on the kitchen floor.  Damn dogs must have jumped high enough to knock it off the counter.  Yes, these are the same little angles who ate all those cookies last year.  So, I had coleslaw and bread for dinner!

Oh, that sucks rerun.  I know better not to leave any food unattended when I am at my moms house.  She has four dogs that will eat anything not nailed down and behind closed doors.    Even my cat will eat just about anything if you give him half a chance.  Only he won't touch chocolate. 

Oh, livecam.  I can give you my recipe for my spaghetti and meatballs that would make your mouth water.  Only I would not be able to provide any nutritional facts for it.

I have a cat who swallowed a dime and it lodged in his intestines
and cost me $$$ for major surgery for him.  Some people said put him down
but mine are brother and sister and were so close. If he does it again though
I won't spend $$$ like that again.  He's had his nine lives early in his life.

sandmansa please do post your recipe in the recipe thread! I made a first attempt at it a few months ago using a packet sauce (which I usually never do). I added other things to the meatballs than what was on the recipe. The meatballs were nice, but I didnt really like a plain tomato sauce on the noodles.

Supper was leftovers for me, but dessert was fresh strawberries, topped with a bit of melted ghiradelli chocolate smoothed out with a dab of peanut butter, and finished off with a swirl of cool whip.  Yummmmmmm.

I agree about In and Out.  "Animal it up" is what one nurse told me to do next time I go there.  If you ask them to animal it they add all kinds of stuff to the burger.  Now I have not tried it so the info is second hand.  Sounded good to me!  They make an awesome cheeseburger anyway!  I want one now.  Hmmmm, can't drive to get it....maybe a ride from someone???

Either way, after saying that i MIGHT lose my appetite at the thought alone.  But i love me some grilled onions on my burger (and on the side) and when i was on a no carb diet i would eat a protein burger those are jammin,  no buns, all lettuce, different yet deliciosos

I went to my friend Beth's yearly Halloween party tonight and had meatballs with honey garlic sauce (Yummy!)

It was a great party! I saw most of my friends there including an ex-boyfriend's new girlfriend and her sister who grew up with Jamie who was apart of this board!

What a small world after all!

And doesn't anyone sleep around here?  I'm awake again because my sugar bottomed out and woke me up.  I thought I'd surf until I was sure my sugar was stable again.  It's 4 am and epoman and angie are both on here posting!  If I remember right, epoman is further west, so it's probably not so late there, but Ontario is the same time zone I'm in.

it probably is NOT what my dietitian would recommend and I will find out on the upcoming bloodwork day... but it was good and was the only food at the party! I am up late only because my friends still have VERY late parties since most of them don't have kids (the ones that do already left).

There was a guy who admitted to being a diabetic who was drinking beer. He said beer is bad. Is that true? I know it is bad for dialysis patients.

Waiting for my blood sugar to bounce back!  I can't sleep when I've got the wobbles.

Beer has lots of carbos, although I suppose the light version wouldn't be as bad.  I don't know, really, I haven't had a drink since college, and not much then.  It always seemed like a waste of money to me, when I could get a good buzz from a chocolate chip cookie or a piece of fudge.  Nothing like a sugar high. . . just ask any kid on Halloween.

(After college, I was introduced to the lovely concept of carbo counting and sliding scale insulin to keep the blood sugar stable, so I don't even get that buzz now.)

I'm still thinking I need to find a recipe for honey garlic sauce, though. . . maybe if I used it on chicken it would be better for a renal diet.

I'm trying to get into the right frame of mind for cooking things now, before I start dialysis.  I know the diet is going to be my biggest problem - I have sooooo little will power when it comes to food!

As for the ones my friend Beth had.. she put meatballs bought from M&M meat shops and threw them into a crock pot and then added the store bought sauce. Just look at the lable to know if it is ok or not.

That's true but my uncles doctor was very insistant.  Even went to the trouble of informing me of how serious he was.  If my uncle was to get drunk once more, that it would hospitalize him or worse.  And well, that is why my uncle is now a "late" uncle.    He drank himself to death.  Litterally.
