OhioBuckeye, Jan Evans in Ohio passed away on Saturday, Jan 3rd.  Her battle was a long fought struggle.  She had been on peritoneal dialysis but that had become a source of infection, probably more due to the last amputation that never healed.  She was septic and none of the antibodics seemed to be working.....they suggested hemodialysis and amputating more of her left leg.  Gastrophoresis had taken her ability to eat, constant nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.  She made the decision for Hospice on Tuesday the 30th.  We had a grand celebration on New Years Eve with a key board, and lots of people singing her favorite gospel music.....short of breath, yet she would chime in when she could...she clapped at her favorite hymns,  praised the Lord and sometimes directed this 'choir'.   She wanted to be as pain free as possible and yet wanted to be able to talk with everyone.....she was and she did.  Saturday she greeted a friend and her Pastor that had just gotten into town that morning.  She was already blind but would recognize voices.  Her last moments were very peaceful....she laid her head on my shoulder, I asked if she would like to hear her music, she said not this time,  my arm around her, my hand on her chest....I told her it was alright to go, she nodded and took three more breaths.....there was no gasping for air, no cry of pain....just sleep.  She finally looked pain free.

She enjoyed this site very much....it gave her strength.  She had hoped to make it to Vegas, or maybe Chicago....she was just too ill for either of them.  But we never stopped talking about the 'next' convention.  I hope this gives you more insight as to who Jan was....she was a Christian, never needed to 'flaunt' it, she simply lived it.

Thanks for allowing me to share.....it helps me too.
Longtime friend,
Sue

Oh, this is very sad news, indeed.  Sue, thank you so much for being Jan's friend and for being there with her at the end.  Thank you for coming here to tell us what has happened.  I am sad that she had to lose the battle, but comforted to hear that she was not in pain, and that she was able to share her last days and moments with people that loved her.  I am sure that this is a difficult time for you and for all of those who were there for her when she needed you.

RIP OhioBuckeye
We will miss you!

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear this.  OB was a well-loved IHD member who will be sorely missed.  At least she is no longer in pain now.  Thanks, Sue, for letting us know.

My dear friend,  We will never share Donato's pizza together or tell Columbus stories again.  You were so important to the members here and loved by all of us.  We knew what wonderful friends you had because you always told us such loving things about them.  I am sure they cherished your friendship.  There will be a hole in our IHD family but heaven is now a brighter, happier place with you there.   I am going to miss you but am glad you are no longer in pain or suffering.   :cuddle;  :cuddle;
