I'm curious...anyone still eat sushi? i love the stuff but am hesitant because im new to all this still.....obviously i wouldnt use the soy sause...

i wouldn't think there would be a problem as rice is fine and the quantity of the other ingredients is small. remember the diet isn't about denial, it's balance and moderation.

Jan. 2008 - NY Times: Recent laboratory tests found so much mercury in tuna sushi from 20 Manhattan stores and restaurants that at most of them, a regular diet of six pieces a week would exceed the levels considered acceptable by the Environmental Protection Agency.

In the case of a kidney transplant: Do not eat sushi, raw oysters or any other raw or undercooked meat or fish.

I adore sushi but I only get it from very reputable places and I really dislike all supermarket sushi.  I also avoid tuna because of mercury.  I ate it during my transplant but I was never actually told not to and this time around might be different.  Don't know yet.  Any scent of "fish" and I send it back.  It should not ever smell fishy, not even a little bit.

It's true that not all sushi is raw and not just California Rolls.  I love spicy crab rolls (with real crab) and spider rolls (with shrimp tempura and veggies) and....oh dear this could go on and on. 

I used to use low-sodium soy sauce and just a wee bit of it (I'd take my own to restaurants that weren't my usual place that carried it as standard) but now on dialysis I don't use any.

04/08 Started Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD)
05/08 Started CCPD (my cycler: The little box of alarms)
07/09 AV Fistula and Permacath added, PD catheter removed. PD discontinued and Hemodialysis resumed
08/09 AV Fistula redone higher up on arm, first one did not work
07/11 Mass found on remaining kidney
08/11 Radical Nephrectomy, confirmed that mass was renal cell carcinoma
12/12 Whipple, mass on pancreas confirmed as renal cell carcinoma
