Thanksgiving

My Dear IHD Friends,
I just want to wish each and everyone of you a wonderful Thanksgiving this week. Do me a favor and eat some noodles for me ! Dustin loved noodles and mashed taters which is a no no. I pray you all are surrounded by all those you love and hold dear.

Thanks for the Thanksgiving wishes, Lori.  I hope your Thanksgiving is peaceful and not too

Lori, I could tell right off that you were from up north when you mentioned eating noodles and mashed potatoes together. I got that habit from my grandfather who used to make the most delish homemade noodles. I hope you will be surrounded by friends and family and that you will be able to remember other good times with Dustin, too.

This is going to be an interesting Thanksgiving for me for several reasons: My daughter will be spending the holiday with her father this year. I don't plan on cooking because I have no other family to celebrate with. I am hoping that one of my friends will invite me over for dinner. I hope that doesn't sound selfish. I will also have to really watch my diet this year since alot of traditional Thanksgiving dishes are not dialysis friendly. I am thankful for so many things this year, even dialysis in a way. I don't like the dialysis procedure itself and the side effects can be rotten, but having the extra fluid weight and toxins gone from my body makes me feel alot better. I am thankful that I made it through another year with a body that "takes a licking and keeps on ticking" - with a little help of course   And I say thanks everyday for finding this group. Everyone has made me feel welcome and less alone in dealing with this situation.  The support I have found here is invaluable.  Cheers everyone!!     In my mind this is iced tea, not beer!! But everyone can have what they want.

hey Graftgirl, join the club, I don't plan on cooking on turkey day either.  My son is here, but he'd rather drink than eat and my grand daughter is SO picky about food, it's just not worth the effort.  at least she loves Chef Boyarde  mini ravoli, plenty of protein there.  I don't plan on attempting to reverse bad eating habits she has learned in the 10 years she has lived with her mom.  but I do miss the thanksgiving dinners we used to have as a real family back when I was married and all the kids were still little. but just like having to start on dialysis, times change and we must change /adapt with it.

Lori, my family is Pennsyvania Dutch, so noodles and mashed potatoes have always been on our holiday tables.  I still get my noodles from Amish country (either in Ohio or PA).   I will raise my fork to your dear son and to you, the one who cared for and loved him the most.       I am glad you stay an active part of IHD.  We love you

ha!  I'm going over to Mama's house and will be bringing German cabbage, a big no-no on the renal diet.  We held off making this dish for the last few years because Mike loved it so much and we didn't want to tempt him---lots of bacon---  Lori, I'll be thinking of you when I eat my taters.

A very happy Thanksgiving to all my beloved American family members!  Because of the strong American culture here in the Virgin Islands, they do celebrate Thanksgiving, but it is not part of my Bajan culture.  Our biggest supermarket even brings in a giant pumpkin for a guess-the-weight contest!
November is very important to my home country Barbados.  Our Independence Day is November 30th and this year we will be celebrating 42 years of independence, although Queen Elizabeth is still our constitutional monarch (as with Canada, Australia, etc.)

I've lost so much recently but I still have a lot to be thankful for and one of those things is finding IHD and y'all.
