Thanks, guys!   SURPRISE!!!!!!!   Because there will be no space in the theatre on Wednesday, at dialysis today I was told I would have to come right back to the hospital and be admitted to have the operation on Tuesday!

Two good things - the friend who drove me back is Jamaican, and when I told him the surgeon is Jamaican and told him her name, he said that she is very good. that encouraged me.
Secondly - this room is COLD!!!! :yahoo;

Goofynina and Epoman - Gone But Not Forgotten

« Reply #49 on: November 12, 2008, 09:43:46 AM »

My dear IHD family,
Thanks you so much for all your wonderfully encouraging expressions.  it all went well.  Just I think I was not given enough local anasthetic, since I kept feeling some pain as they were operating.
My other problem - hunger!!!!!!!!   I had supper in the hospital at about 6  p.m. on Monday.  They were preparing me for the theatre from about 9 Tuesday morning, but I didn't get into the theatre until 4p.m (there were some emergencies).  My daughter told me that I got back to my room at 8.15 (they called her from the hospital) and said that I  chatted with her about 9, but I have no recollection whatever about that.

For the first time, I saw what the tubing for thegraft looks like.  I asked the surgeon in the theatre and  she showed me.
My arm is now quite swollen and there is only a very short area that they can use to put in the two  needles for dialysis. I am on my Wed dialysis as I type this.
I will be able to go home after dialysis.
Kitkatz, that is good advice about the arm.  they didn't tell me anything about that on the surgical  ward - one of our dialysis nurses just told me that is what I needto do to bring down the  swelling.
Thanks again.  Keep my in your caring thoughts for  total  recovery.
