Bone pains worsening
«
on:

Despite dialysis and phosphate binders and vitamin D, my bone pains continue to worsen. I already had major pain in my left hip joint; X-ray confirmed joint space narrowing there. Then it spread to my right hip joint. And most recently, it seems to have spread to my spine and shoulder blades; my upper back is in considerable pain, and I can barely raise my arms above my head.
If this keeps up, I'm not going to be able to climb stairs or lift even somewhat heavy objects. What else can be done about all this? Should I ask my neph for a bone scan?

If the neph orders a bone scan and finds nothing then I would see a rheumatologist. Pain sucks.

Yes, you might want to have a bone scan. How are your numbers?
Plus it might be time to start some physical therapy.

I just got my latest blood work numbers this evening.
With all the Zemplar they've been shoving into me, my PTH has been dropping, it's now around 380 or so. (It was around 1200 when I was first diagnosed with ESRD last August.) And yes, the bone pains seem to have leveled off (not getting worse anymore). And the pain in my back has subsided, thank goodness. Still have considerable pain in both my thighs though.
My nephrologist told me that the itching and bone pains are going to take time to improve, even after my PTH and other numbers get close to the target range (which is what's happening with them).

I'm glad things are a little better for you and I hope they can be resolved better in the future.
I too have bone pain, muscle pain, and itching and I will be interested in knowing your outcome.
