My dad has been on dialysis for a year and a half. He was admitted to the hospital with pneumonia. They say he will make a full recovery. Does anyoneknow if he will continue to get this everytime he has a cold? I would also appreciate any info on dialysis patients and pneumonia. Thanks

When I was diagnosed with kidney disease, one of the first things they did was give me pneumonia shot. Maybe your Dad will get one.

My dad had one three years ago. The doctor said it covered 10 types and he probably got the eleventh type.

Patients on dialysis have reduced immunity, which can contribute to the risk of pneumonia.

People with reduced immunity, the over 60s, asthmatics etc all get a yearly flu vaccine here (UK), if your Dad had one 3 years ago it may have "worn off" by now (or whatever the medical term is
)

We get a yearly flu shot here in Canada too but we also get the pneumonia shot every five years.
