Hey all!
So, sunday I went to the Seattle RSN (Renal Support Network) meeting. Which was pretty cool, lots of good information and interesting people. My mom and I spent a good 15 mins talking to the NxStage guys, which sounds way awesome. I didnt realize that it was so much more convenient. The only things that really bothered me was, A) the food they provided. Ok, who in their right mind gives a bunch of renal patients banana muffins? PLUS there were quite a few people there, they set out a breakfast buffet at 10am, and there was a VERY SMALL dessert buffet at 1pm. But that was it! That many people (quite a few probably diabetic) in a room from 10 am till 3:45 pm with hardly any food provided. Does that seem slightly ridiculous to anyone else? My mom and I were so hungry when we left! and B) there was a woman on the panel at the end, and Im very glad she was willing to share, but she literally said flat out that she never feels bad or crappy or overly tired. Granted shes on pd and apparently that has made her life just peachy, but your talking to a room full of mostly older people who more than likely feel crappy on a daily basis! I know I can be a little judgemental at times, but I wanted to punch the woman in the face the second time she said that she never feels bad (and she said it a lot!) :Kit n Stik; It even upset my mom.

I know it seems like I complain alot about this, so I'll end on a positive note.
The meeting was awesome, and went well, and I was reminded of quite a few things that I had... "conviently forgotten". Plus, I think it helped with my social anxiety a ton!

That would be a good one for the "Ignorant things people have said to you" thread.  Could be they didn't expect that big of a turn out, but I do agree, they should have had something other than banana muffins. I wonder if the woman who was on PD is the one who brought the muffins? It is good you got something positive from the meeting, we dialysis patients don't have time to waste.

Frankenarm - first - let me tell you that is an adorable name - very clever- my arm could be named that :rofl;
                   second -  :bandance; muffins-- that is :urcrazy;
                   third - I need to get the name of the doctor of the lady who never feels bad -
                            then I need to move there
                   fourth - just does not sound like they were really thinking of renal patients, food is important to us and our health
                              when I get real hungry I get sick and I am not diabetic
are you in college - glad you are with us on IHD - do you know Karen - she is also young and we have some other younger members -

The Renal Support Network had 130 people come to the meeting - far more than had RSVP'd - which is great, but hard to adapt to last minute. No doubt Bill Peckham being on the panel contributed to the popularity! It's also tough when working with hotel food staff. They agree to serve renal friendly, but sometimes that doesn't work out.

Sadly Bill Peckham wasnt able to attend, but was mentioned quite a few times.
My mom and I were laughing our boo-tays off about the muffins, there was other food but really, that should have been caught by someone right? At least a little sign to let us know they were banana would have been nice! lol.
I am in college... well I try to be, I havent been since last fall quarter due to illness and dialysis, readjusting to feeling crappy and tired all the time. But Im trying to go back fall 08 (i.e. in like 5 weeks) and even have a scholarship from the Northwest Kidney Centers Foundation (or something close to that.) Im working towards being a social worker/couseler, but my eventual goal is to be a Child Life Specialist.
And finally Joe Paul is correct, the pear is saying "Do you have what it takes to handle these curves?" Hey, Im a curvy girl and I like it!
Im trying to get a good pic of the arm of doom to use as well though.

Gotta be the drugs, G-ma!

Or sheer stupidity that causes her failure to realize that her experience is not universal.
