Bring out ya violins , kleenex and that big box of choccies! Well today was the day i have been waiting for ..the day i got my IV iron! My,my what a day , im sat here battered and bruised and very sore ! Everything went ok , then it came time to insert the needle for my iron . Ahem ! 40 mins later and 9 tries in different veins , no luck. They where just about to call for a doctor to see if he could do it when they struck gold (or blood). So im sat here after they tried both arms , both hands , my wrist (thats sore) before finally getting a vein on the outside of my arm. Most now are a bit swollen , some are starting to bruise already. I think im going to have to stay in a while in case i get mistaken for a junkie !!
But i got my iron , thing is i got to go back again for a few more yet!

I've had similar experiences trying to get IV's. I'm not sure which hurts more, the poking, or the recovery! Give yourself the rest of the day off from everything except IHD and treats.

kickstart, sorry you're in pain and I hope you feel better soon. But, I gotta say, I read "IV iron" and I thought - is this something new? I've never heard of an IV iron. Why would you need some type of iron for an IV? What does it do? Flatten the artery? Heat up the arm? I'm picturing a clothes iron being pressed on your arm in order to insert an IV. LOL!!! I kept reading, because I was certainly intrigued. I literally laughed out loud at myself when I realized it was IV to give you iron, LOL!!! I'm still chuckling here. Silly me!

Hi Kickstart. Exactly the same thing happened to me. My first IV iron they tried the same amount of times for a vein and finally found one in my ankle. I found I was getting really nauseated in the end and having a line in your ankle is quite painful. The last time I had IV iron they asked a specialist to come up because of my previous problems and he put a blood pressure cuff on my arm and pumped it up really high and left it for two minutes and then they got the needle in first go. It was a bit uncomfortable but better than being a pin cushion. Maybe you could suggest that next time. Take it easy for the next few days. Iron can make you feel a bit fluey but you will feel fantastic after that. xx

Sucks having veins the size of tiny things. Happens to me all the time when they start IVs and take blood. I always tell them to get the blood sucking guru out for me.
