Needling the Needles
«
on:

I stuck my self tonight with one needle. I was kidding with the tech and asked if I could do the second needle. She handed it to me, gloved my hand and I did it! Not very well, but got it into the graft and then had her help me! Not as scary as I thought it would be. Going to try again next time.

Yep it's easier than you think, it's a lot of mind over matter, I was scared shitless at the start. But I knew that If i did it myself i would be more in control and I think it actually easier and less painful when you do it yourself.

it's very empowering is'nt it, more power to those who can do it, i only did it once, then got very lazy, but my excuse is that the fistula zig zags all the way up to the shoulder blade.

Strange! I was told that they would teach me to do it all, if I wanted, including setting up the machine, etc. If, I asked the doctor, he would order it. I'm proud of you for trying. I'm not quite ready for that yet. I used to give my own epo shots, and I've stopped using the numbing shots, but not yet ready to stick my own needles. I'm sure it would be just like when I first started giving my epo shots. After the first few times, it was a piece of cake.

Hold to your guns, Kit! If you want to do this (and I think it's wonderful that you do), push them. Insist. Demand. Threaten. Show them the big stick, girl!

Fantastic Kit! I am inspired!
Did you use a tourniquet?
What did they cite as the reason for not permitting you to stick yourself? policy, your ability to do it or what?
