Tonight at dialysis was interesting.  A few techs are on vacation this week on my shift so they have called in some of the morning techs.  I had never met the tech I had tonight.  I started talking to him and he was on dialysis for 4-1/2 years and then 2-1/2 years ago he got a transplant.  He had worked in law enforcement but when he went back after the transplant, he decided it wasn't what he wanted to do with the rest of his life.  Now he thinks he will go back to school to get his nursing license so he can work with transplant patients.

I just thought that was pretty neat!

We have a tech in our unit who is a prior dialyzor and now transplant recipient. He is the most compassionate and attentive tech in the unit and we are quite happy when he is our tech.

 8) That is so great, I can imagine that someone who has gone through it would be more compassionate and attentive. I say good on your tech.

That's really amazing how peoples hearts change throughout life.  I'll bet that tech will be an excellent nurse.

That is neat, when prior patients do that, THEY know what it's like.

I hope he goes back to school, we need more people like him!

I wouldn't think you could find anyone better than someone who's "been there, done that".  I know he's got the scars but I wonder if he's also got the T-Shirt to prove it!

I think that is great that he has went through what some of you are going through. He will be more understanding.
