I have been away from the site for awhile due to some complications.  I've been on pd for about 8 months, I got a hernia, which caused a bowel obstructions.  I had surgery to repair the obstructions, and after that I got a really bad case of peritonitis.  I was given high dose antibiotics to cure the peritonitis, and they damaged my inner ears, so now my balance is shot.  I walk around like a drunken sailor and I can no longer drive.  The balance damage is permanent.

I have been really depressed because I thought my life sucked enough with just having kidney faillure.  Now it seems so much worse.  I keep putting on the 'brave sick person' face for everyone around me. but I really feel like life has been so unfair to me.  I am stuck in the house 24/7 unless I have someone to drive me around.  I don't have any questions or answers, but I just needed to rant.

Bette,  It just seems to never end! I am sorry and I cannot imagine how mad/upset/furious you are at the situation.   Please come here more and just scream away. Lean on us for awhile. We are here for you all the time.  :cuddle;

What an absolute BUMMER. I had no idea that anibiotics could damage the ears. It's probably the last thought on your mind at the moment but is it possible some negligence might have been involved on the part of the hospital?

There was some negligence.  I believe that my nephrologist was not properly monitoring my antibiotic levels.  Right now I have a lawyer and I am pursuing a lawsuit.

OMG, what a nightmare.  I'm so sorry to hear this.  All I can say is try to hang in there and hope for better days, although I'm sure that's hard right now.  In the meantime, keep coming to IHD; you have a lot of sympathetic friends here.  :grouphug;

I sorry i cant say anything to make it better for you. Is it a rare thing to happen, as lots of us on pd would get the same treatment for peritonitis. Was it a reaction you had to the anti-biotics? Maybe as medicine progresses they may find a way to help retore your balance.. :cuddle;

I am so sorry this has happened to you.  You have a place to rant anytime you need it. Keep after everyone involved and make them see that they are responsible. Good luck.

What a nightmare.  In trying to heal one part of the body, they ruin another part.  Not being able to drive is for the
birds.  I can no longer drive because of my eyes.  It is just awful to have to wait on someone else to take you where you need to go.  My prayers are with you.

Love, Mimi

:grouphug;  Bette, I am sorry you have been so unwell. The level of Antibiotics must have been very high. I hope you are able to hold the hospital responsible for the damage. I am also a PD patient so I will be aware of your problems if ever I need high levels of treatment.

I am glad you made it back to us. Keep coming back .... we love a good    :rant;   :cuddle;
