Hey Guys! Most of you probably have no idea who I am, but I used to post here all the time when I was on dialysis. I've since got a kidney transplant (I guess it's been over a year now) and I'm doing great. I kind of forgot about this site for a while, but just recently remembered how much it helped me deal with the difficulties I went through while on dialysis. School's almost over for me so I'll probably be checking back here a little more often throughout the summer.
So how is everyone doing these days? I'm sure a lot has happened since the last time I posted something here (sometime in 2007 I think). Hope to hear from some familiar faces!

Well I don't know you hyperlite but I probably speak for quite a few of us who would like some details about your transplant.  Great news that you're doing well.

Transplant details eh? alright I can do that...

So I was on dialysis for 2 years (hemo). I'm sure most of you guys know how that goes.

I got a couple calls for a transplant, but I didn't get one until my third call. Which for some reason, I was the most relaxed about. Just kind of went and and had the operation as if it was no big deal. Well I was pretty wrong there. I was in the hospital after my transplant for almost a month. I had some rejection at first, and it took quite a while for the transplant to kick in and start functioning properly. After it started working though, things went quite well. I had to miss a year of school though, so that was pretty brutal.

My transplant has been amazing so far, however I have had some "bumps in the road". My immune system has been less than ideal (good for the whole not rejecting part, but bad for my overall health). So I've had a couple bouts of being pretty sick. CMV (cytomegalovirus) and EBV (Epstein-Barr virus) have been a huge pain in the ass, but a couple of pills later, I feel fine.

Other than that, I couldn't ask for things to be better. My creatinine clearance has been the lowest its been in years (like 10 years or more). And I can do whatever I want now. Its nice to be able to drink again. I'm still in school, but should be done my undergrad next year anyway.

To be honest with you, now that I've had my transplant I can't imagine ever going back on dialysis, although I know that its almost a certainty. But here's hoping anyway. If you guys have any questions about the whole transplant thing (pre or post), fire away. I'd be happy to answer.

I hope you get years and years out of it.  Mine lasted 23 years and I still have it but failing now.  It's a great feeling though eh, the freedom of a good kidney?  Now here comes the part where I sound like your mother.  You take good care of that kidney and use it well but don't abuse it (not that I'm assuming you will) but if you're anything like me the urge to do everything now that you have energy again, can be humongous.  I see you flying through the air on that there board!!!  Live it up hyperlite and hyper-enjoy your new lease on life.

Hyperlite, I remember you, but I had only been on a couple of months when you went away. I got a kidney this past January after almost a year and a half on PD. You're right, the feeling of wanting to do everything, and having the energy for it is amazing!! Now if only I had the time and money to do it all...

back hyperlite. I remember you. My husband had a transplant in Sept 07 and he is having some of those bumps also. Good to hear from you and post more often. We aren't just here for dialysis patients, lots of transplants and caregivers too.
