YOU CAN HAVE CHOCOLATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok, sorry, I'm a little excited, and I have to share. Back in November when I started dialysis, the dietitian told me about these "chocolate" chips that are ok for us to have. They are made with chocolate liquor (yes, liquOR, not liquEUR) instead of cocoa, so they are very low (or none, not sure) in phosphorous. She said she made chocolate chip cookies one time for the patients and she couldn't even tell the difference.
Tonight I decided to try them, and since my potassium is low, I had chocolate covered strawberries. OMG!!! So good! Once the chips melted, the consistency was more like frosting or a soft fudge than what you'd normally put on strawberries, but it's been so long, who cares??
Anyway, the brand they have around here is the Kroger grocery store brand, FMV. They're in a bright yellow and orange bag with a lot of Spanish writing on it. If you don't have Kroger in your area, check all the generic-type chips in your baking aisle and see if maybe you can find some. It's totally worth it to have chocolate again.
