I was just wondering-I am applying for social security for my husband, he was the sole provider,and I have health issues of my own,I am extremely obese and have a hard time moving,walking etc.,but if we run out of money before SS starts-how will we pay for the treatments? I mean his insurance pays 70%,but if we don't have the other 30% will they refuse him dialysis?

Ask your SSW (Stupid Social Worker) how you apply for Medicare and Social Security Disability and what is provided for Kidney Patients.

Glitter, I reread your introduction.  When he starts dialysis, you will be assigned a SSW.  You'll have to sign a bunch of papers and given a bunch of information to read.  Including a booklet on Medicare and Kidney Patients.

So, to answer your question, if you are going to do "home" dialysis, then Medicare starts immediately.  If you are in "clinic" then you have a 3 month waiting period.  Your insurance is primary and Medicare is secondary for 30 months, and then if flip-flops.
