Hey all,
So today I am not feeling my best. After 2 hours of dialysis I get a sudden upset stomach kinda like the feeling I have to go to the bathroom and almost feels like diarrhea. I waited it out since I was on the machine and thankfully it went away. Later, i overhear the patient next to me saying to his doctor he has bad diarrhea. In the car on my way home I wanted to barf. I went home napped but was awaken dye to upset stomach and went to the bathroom and it was loose and watery. Today in the morning all i ate was an orange and an apple.

Maybe it was too much fruit for you. And be careful with oranges...they are loaded with potassium. Might want to keep yourself hydrated to flush any junk out. Hope you feel better.

Eat some protein before you go to dialysis and avoid potassium rich foods.  Your body absorbs it quickly and it can cause diarrhea.

It could be the flu, but call your doctor just in case, and it will make you less anxious. You might want to rake your temp etc.

Good luck girl, and get well soon

If you have had an upset stomach,it could be dehydration. Those are the symptoms of not enough fluid. I know its strange what with the constant effort to limit fluids, but upset stomach can leave you dehydrated.

I unfortunately found out how hard C-Diff is to kill off.  I got it as a side effect of antibiotic use for a small infection on my arm.

Diarrhea can, and will cause dehydration.  So one must be aware of your hydration level as light-headedness, dizziness, that flushing, can all be causes by dehydration.  This can rapidly become CRITICAL.

STOP those oranges, even the small ones.  Tangerines are far far better.  It least so I am told by my dietician.

Imodium can help for some.  I had never tried it but Daughter gave me some one weekend while I was there.  I was surprised how well it worked.  But beware again, initiall diarrhea wants to purge the nasties out, so it may be best that first day to let it flow.  After that, hydrate and try the Imodium when you need to go out.

Thanks for the advice, i had dislysis today and even with my blood pressure raising med my bp was in the 60s. I feel this has a lot to do with dehydration and the bathroom visits. I will hydrate myself and try to eat protein

From other posts of yours, this may apply to you: If my blood pressure goes very low on dialysis, this gives me diarrhea.

Funny today I heard one of the techs saying that to another patient. They get the urge to use the bathroom.
