HIV patients are supposed to be treated in a confined room, apart form other patients, so I do not understand their logic on that. Someone mentioned being told not to cover their heads. I was told the same thing, upon which I told them to turn up the temperature on the damn AC and I would gladly comply. They even had us sign papers saying we would not cover our heads, and on the paper I wrote I would comply, UNLESS they turned the AC so low it became unbearable. Also, the lights are NEVER dimmed at our facility, so it makes napping easier.

I find it hard to believe they would arrange chair assignments around an HIV positive patient!

You are not allowed to dialyse a person with a serious blood transmitted disease in the same room as another person (unless they have the same disease). The staff have no choice in that matter.

After a long journey they finally changed my chair! Away from the door. They had to move several people around which I dont understand why. The person who took my chair why couldnt I switch with him??

My advice would be to refuse to sit in that chair and say no, I have repeatedly asked to be moved. The cold makes you uncomfortable and stressed (So do bright lights and noisy neighbours!!!) Sometimes you have to kick up a fuss to be listened to. And you are asking for something pretty minor and easily fixed. It is part of their job to make sure you are comfortable.

My chair is directly under the A/C vent, like many are. I have arthritis in my knees, especially bad in my left knee. Sometime, I am is such pain that I am withering in my chair. Everyone knows I have this problem, but no one does anything about it. They say the have to keep the room cool. I usually take a pain pill before I  go to dialysis and sometimes while I am there. I cannot tell you the pain I am in while I am in that chair. This is why I dread going to dialysis.

That sounds awful, Coldhoist.  Would you be able to switch to PD? You are not so trapped in PD.  You can move around and control your environment and you can sleep through the whole thing.

Coldhoist - Consult a lawyer. You can sue, however once they are aware you will take it that far it will probably be unnecessary because they will move you to prevent a lawsuit.

It would not make a difference at our clinic as EVERY chair has a vent over it. It is the worst design I can think of for its purpose. The point I keep trying to make to them is that when they have the PPE on, it does not matter how low they turn the thermostat, they will be hot because no air gets through. I know as I had to wear the same type PPE on accasion at work. Then once shift change is over and they take off the PPe, they put on jackets and stuff.

I cannot for the life of me figure out why the dialysis center puts bright lights and vents directly over the patients. Put the lights over the machines and vents int he middle of the room, not on top of the clients.

Check with CMS there The clinic is required to make reasonable accomidations if the patient is cold providing heated seats is a reasonable accomidation.  I would bring in a heating pad and claim reasonable accommodation.

We have no say in which seats we get.  Where we are put is where we are put.  I've asked that I not be put next to the window because I have light sensitivities, and I had to have the doctor sign an order for that.  There are lights over each chair, but they all have their own switches and can be turned off.  Our heat and AC is controlled by a central system, and I've noticed that between 7pm and 7:15pm the temperature drops by a few degrees, so I think it's something that might be programmed because all the other clinics in the building are closed by 7pm
