My access site (fistula in the left forearm) seems to work just great.

However, the skin and scarring from the fistula surgery are both getting unusually dry, rough and thick.

Is there any particular lotion or other technique that I could use that is safe to help alleviate this issue?

Thank you!

I have great luck with Amlactin on dry feet.   I prefer the "Amlactin Ultra" version in the tube over the less viscous regular Amlactin in a pump bottle.

While on in-centre HD I used to give my whole fistula a vitamin E-oil mask (clean arm, empty capsule with vit-E oil over fistule, rub in carefully with clean hands  :angel;  , cover with clingfilm or anything plastic and tape (or Tegaderm or whatever). Leave for the day (non D day   )

Good luck, Cas

I had the same problem, dry and itching on my fistula.  The problem turned out to be the tape used to hold the needles.  The center was using nexcare paper hypoallergenic paper tape.  I bought nexcare sensitive skin tape and the problem went away.  The tapes great but it’s pricey.  But after sitting for 4.5 hours in Dialysys with a itchy arm I could not scratch I figure it’s worth the extra 5 dollars a week.
