That's another fine TARDIS you got me into Stanley

« on: December 28, 2017, 01:10:53 PM »

Over Christmas I was discussing my condition with my sister's husband. He knew very little about it and was, I think, genuinely interested. He was shocked to hear my liquid limit (half a litre) and, I think, a little disappointed that his kids were not as shocked as he was. So he has decided that after Christmas is over, the entire family are going to spend one day where they are only drink half a litre each.

Those poor children. :(

He's a good dad, and those kids are lucky.  Anything that teaches kids about lives that are not their own will serve them well.

It should also help them become a bit more empathetic with others. I really feel for you and cannot imagine only a half litre per day. One liter seems draconian to me.

To be honest, neither can I. I doubt I have ever quite managed it. Result of that, and eating too much, is 3 to 4 litres each session. :(

It works. I am constantly amazed at the way those kids behave.

What a wonderful thing for him and the kids to do that for you. God bless them.

I Believe you set the Kids up to fail.

Imposing a tight fluid limit without advising of some of the coping skills is a near guarantee of failure. Even if self-imposed.

I force myself to allow ONLY one mouthful of any fluid at a time.  And force myself to wait almost an hour if I want another. And I fail at this some times.

I carry a shirt pocket full of Mint Life Savers. One can really help with a dry mouth.

When all else fails, a small ice chip, or medium, or even a large one if I'm at home as we don't have anything smaller than cubes and I'm too lazy to try to bash them into smaller pieces.

And besides, I'm THIRSTY!

Filled my husband's Christmas stocking with mouthwatering sweet and sour treats; Cinnamon Altoids Mints, Peppermint Altoids (they are super hot!) Sour fruit-flavored Sweetarts, Starbursts and even sour and tart flavored candy canes. Figured he deserved a little variety from sucking on the usual ice cube or frozen Lime Bar or diet Ginger Ale. He can have these treats "on the go" except that I doubt he wants to lug around a Xmas stocking with him all day...lol...so I put his goodies in plastic zip baggies to carry in his pocket. Anything to make his mouth water. Well, with the exception of winning the lottery.

He went back to doing in-center July 2016.
After more than 150 days of being hospitalized with complications from Diabetes, my beloved husband's heart stopped and he passed away 06-08-21. He was only 63.

Dad can teach those coping skills, too!  That would make for an even better lesson!  Great idea!
