Problem with Kidney stones

Ok, I'm 43 years old, I have Igan and when my kidney function dropped below 10% last Nov. I started dialysis. In-center until Feb. then on a Nxstage unit until April, then on an upgraded nxstage unit till now.

I take Metoprolol tartrate for BP, calcitriol, a Neph-multi with D, and Calcium Acetate.

I have never had a kidney stone in my life. 2 months ago I woke up and thought I was dying. After a trip to the ER, I found out it was a kidney stone. I have had 2 more since then,

I go see a urologist tomorrow, and I have spoke with my GP and my Neph, but both are waiting on the Urologist visit.

Has anyone else had this problem? They say it has nothing to do with dialysis... but I have to wonder.

My CKD and I were just discussing if he might have a kidney stone - He had one years ago in Vietnam but none since but he feels as if he needs to go and just said that it's as if the urine is right down ready to come out then nothing..   I do remember when Mom was on PD she would have that feeling.  I found it interesting that this post had been viewed hundreds of times with no comments.  - any input would be appreciated.  He's on HD in center since June 30, 2016 and until now has some output but greatly diminished.

Any one can develop a 'stone' if the mineral content of the urine exceeds a certain level.  The mineral can precipitate, similar to sugar crystallizing in old honey.  High mineral content and time together can have this effect.

Those that make very little urine and NOT voiding may be more susceptible to this the lack of flow may allow the concentration to linger giving time for this crystal to form. Stones may form in the urine ducts of the kidneys and/or in the bladder.

I am not a Dr, just a long time Physics student and see the relationships with many things.

My dad has frequent kidney stones.  If you were able to catch your kidney stone, send it into the lab and see what kind of stone it is.  My dad's are calcium stones so he has had to cut out different foods and drinks.  He now gets stones less often.  I wonder if the calcium acetate caused a calcium stone for you?  Worth looking into.

re: my comment above - turned out because he had a major tooth problem the codeine he took for pain caused the inability to urinate.  or that was the guess of Urgent care at VA ER and we agree.  They put in cath drew off 850 and it stayed in for a week.   When removed he's had no further problems.  The tooth removal was one of the worst experiences he's had ever but that's long since done and he says "NEVER" again will he take codeine something he doesn't do but was suggested by Dental desk.

Wow!  I've long known opiate will cause constipation but I've never had a bladder stoppage while using opiates.

We ARE all a little different.  But I am still surprised how some things can affect some people.

I had a tooth go bad, needed to come out.  The local Dentist shot me up and started digging in after it but then pain shots failed miserably.  It was a nightmare, taking what seemed like forever before he finally got that tooth out.  I felt soo much better afterwards. Just proof again that things aren't often easy.  But we can survive.

Oh yes i have been on dialysis 2 and a half years and just recently had my first kidney stone
Very very painful..thought it was just a uti but way too much pain for that.
Took 4 days to pass it and was so relieved when it did
My nurse didn't seem to think alot of people on dialysis get kidney stones but i still urinate alot so I
was thinking maybe that was why,  plus my mom had a couple stones too in her lifetime.
