Canadians? Help, pls?

Hello, Canadians, I am in Canada right now as well, guys. What do YOU do when you travel somewhere into USA, or possibly another country and NEED the dialysis for extending a potential stay? I need mine every few days, totaling, so far, 3 days a week.

I don't know what insurance would begin to cover me for this thing. What do you suggest I would do. Sometime, I would like to take a trip somewhere. I am in Saskatchewan, if that helps.

When we travel we arrange dialysis well in advance - one session if we are there more than 3 nights.  He seems to be able to handle 3 nights and then get back home to do home hemo.  We arrange at least a month in advance as they all want medical tests done before you enter their clinic and we also negotiate the price up front too.  We've done it twice - once in Vegas for $400 and once in Minneapolis for $400.


Money wise, the answer is likely different province by province.  We are in Ontario and OHIP will reimburse $200 per session.  Then after that's done I send in a claim to my work insurance and they reimbursed the remainder.

You are doing well to negotiate a US clinic down to $400USD.  While lower than the US Medicare rate, it is also lower than the negotiated rates from most or perhaps all US private insurers.
