Acronyms are fine if you know what they mean.  You totally lose what the poster is trying to say if you don't know what his/her acronyms mean.  I'm gong to list some here and add to them when I come across others that need defining.

BB- Bathroom break

BBL - Be Back Later

BP - Blood Pressure

BRB- Be Right Back

BTW - By The Way

BUMP - Bump Up My Thread

CAPD - Continuous Ambulitory Peritoneal Dialysis

CKD - Chronic Kidney Disease

DX - Dialysis

EOD - Every Other Day

ESRD - End Stage Renal Disease

FYI - For Your Information

IMHO - In My Humble Opinion

IMO - In My Opinion

IRL - In Real Life

JK - Just Kidding

LMAO - Laughing My Ass Off

LOL - Laugh Out Loud

Be sure to edit your ORIGINAL thread to add all the acronyms that people add here. And maybe Bold the acronym. Oh and give this a "sticky "

Medical Acronyms (I figured this was the right place for this):

Acronyms and Abbreviations

A - arterial
   
NKF - National Kidney Foundation
 
ASA - acetylsalicylic acid 
 
PTA - percutaneous transluminal angioplasty

AV - arteriovenous 
 
PTFE - polytetrafluoroethylene

BFR - blood flow rate   

QA - quality assurance

BUN - blood urea nitrogen   

R - recirculation

CDC - Centers for Disease Control   

S - sample
 
CKD - chronic kidney disease   

t - time

CQI - continuous quality improvement   

URR - urea reduction ratio

DOQI - Dialysis Outcomes Quality Initiative   

USRDS - United States Renal Data System

ESRD - end-stage renal disease   

V - volume of distribution (when referring to urea, V = total body water)

IV - intravenous 

V - Venous

NCDS - National Cooperative Dialysis Study

06/85 Diagnosed with type 1 Diabetes
10/04 Radical Nephrectomy (Kidney Cancer or renal cell carcinoma)
02/08 Started Hemodialysis
04/08 Started Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD)
05/08 Started CCPD (my cycler: The little box of alarms)
07/09 AV Fistula and Permacath added, PD catheter removed. PD discontinued and Hemodialysis resumed
08/09 AV Fistula redone higher up on arm, first one did not work
07/11 Mass found on remaining kidney
08/11 Radical Nephrectomy, confirmed that mass was renal cell carcinoma
12/12 Whipple, mass on pancreas confirmed as renal cell carcinoma
