If it is dairy free, is it still cheese?

In the vegetarian/vegan universe, these things are usually called "cheez."

The FDA has strict regulations as to what can be called "cheese", which is why some spreads plus the stuff in the spray can is marketed as "cheese food".

I always thought "cheese food" was what you feed to cheese.  ;D Not something I would incline to eat.

I tend to think of non-cheese as being about the same as artificial butter.  About  a molecule short of being plastic.

Not something that I should eat.
