Just came across this on renalweb:

We just completed a 6 month study of the effects of the Nephros filter and ESA dosage. We followed all of our inpatients for 6 months and tracked their ESA dosage for this period of time. We invested approximately $4,000 for 12 Nephros filters. This dual stage filter achieves 0.005micron filtration. All of our patients maintained their Hgb levels, while their ESA dosage dropped 40%. We saved approximately $28,000 which more than compensated for the Nephro filter investment.

Its an interesting thread and gets me to wonder whether we would be feeling better if better filtration processes were utilized at all clinics.

Is there any scientific backing to the efficacy of these filters?

If these filters are so effective - it is a crime their use is not more widespread.
