Hi noahvale,

I've been using Ferrlecit for many years and have had no problems with it.
It is administered by adding the dose to a 150 cc normal bag of saline and the I.V. drips slowly for about an hour or so.

It's usually given during the course of eight or ten hemodialysis treatments.

In order for me to not get my fingers slapped, I must advise you to consult your nephrologist before attempting this.

I am on PD, my Dr has me taking an iron pill daily.  I don't remember the name,

So far all my other meds have remained unchanged, Blood pressure med we did reduce when I started and got all that excess water weight off.

I take off almost 2 liters some days, average slightly over 1 1/2 every day.  I don't think I drink that much but I must cause it is pretty consistent.

Hey, we're all in this together!

My center uses mostly Venofer, but a few of us are on Ferrlecit.
It's only prescribed when the iron studies indicate the need.

The Venofer is given as a bolus.

The I.V. drip of Ferrlecit is my preferred way of administration … you never know when you might get a reaction.
I believe the other patients on Ferrlecit also receive it by I.V. drip.

Here's to keeping your iron stores healthy!

My center recently switched from Venofer to Ferrlecit as well, but I was told it was because there was a shortage of Veonfer.  I'm not sure if that's just in Canada or if it's a world wide shortage.  I get it every 2 weeks.  The first few times, my bp was monitored every 5 minutes for the first 15 minutes.  I've been on it since November, and I've had no issues with it.
