Jenna never stopped urinating after 3 years of hemo, so this was not an issue.
Now, on peritoneal for 16 months, she still makes plenty of urine.

Is that from her original kidneys? Wouldn't she continue to have proteinuria in this case? I admit I'm puzzled about this, since I have heard different views from different doctors about whether nephrectomy would be done during transplant surgery (getting ahead of things). I was also told that residual kidney function would go away by itself as the blood is rerouted to the transplant kidney.

Nephrectomy during the transplant surgery is only done if there is a medical reason. Otherwise, it's best to not disturb things. I had one kidney removed during transplant for pathology. My disease was not well understood.

Jenna could have residual function from native kidneys or the transplanted kidney or all of them. When the transplant is rejected and you need dialysis, the function is not necessarily at 0%. When I rejected I still had residual function in the transplanted kidney and kept urinating. Probably nothing from my one native kidney. It can't be seen on ultrasound and has probably been mostly absorbed by the body. A function of my disease.

Thank you again for your kindness to share your experiences with us, PaulBC, Noahvale, okarol and jeannea, it is very much appreciated.
... The nurses asked me three days ago to collect during my weekend-dialysis-break my 24 hour water-output and measure it
and so I checked-up my water-output over 24 hours. The result was very shocking,
because my kidneys appeared to have become very lazy during my first few weeks of being on dialysis...
... and they did not function well at all during the 24-hour-test... and my body was left with almost half a liter of water-retention ...
... This water-retention also showed very clearly in my weight-increase ...
... To make sure about these shocking results, I repeated the same test over the next 24 hours,
collecting and measuring again over the next 24 hours once more and the test-result made me realize
that my "two little fighters" became suddenly very busy again and almost were their busy old self again,
by "making up" for their lazyness the day before and they even increased their function and took off
most of the "left over" water-retention-liquid from the first 24-hour-test-day ...
... In future I shall take the water-retention-test for at least 48 hours, to get a better picture...
Thanks again from Kristina.

P.S. Now I am left wondering how to possibly repeat the good results of my second 24 hour water-output-test more regularly ?

Bach was no pioneer; his style was not influenced by any past or contemporary century.
He was completion and fulfillment in itself, like a meteor which follows its own path.
