Anyone using Velphoro as their binder? Results/Issues/Observations?
I usually push the envelope on phosphorus(5.0-5.3 range) so yesterday my Neph asked if I'd try a 10 day sample of FMC's Velphoro to let him see how it works in the real world. I start taking it tomorrow, 1 pill per meal, then we will pull a lab in 10 days to see how my pho level is trending.
Hope it works, one chewable per meal will be much better than taking a hand full of Renvela.

Dailysis patient for since 1999 and still kicking it strong.  I was called for a transplant but could not get it due to damage veins from extremely high blood pressure.  Have it under control now, on NxStage System but will receive dailysis for the rest of my life.  Does life sucks because of this.  ABOLUTELY NOT!  Life is what you make it good, bad, sick, or healthy.  Praise God I'm still functioning as a normal person just have to take extra steps.

I just checked my plans formulary and it is way more expensive than Renvela. Ouch!

If I can get a sample I am all for adding it to my Renvela to help get my P down even further.

My husband's Neph wanted him to try it, it was $975.00 for 90 pills, 1 months worth. We left the RX at the Pharmacy !!  That's nearly his whole check !!!

I put in the request with my Dietitian a couple of weeks ago.  Now it is weaving its way through the insurance process since it is not on the formulary.  Hopefully I'll get approval and it won't cost too much.

I will post my results if I get to try it too.  3-4 of those huge Renvela pills each meal is not appetizing!

I'm OK with taking any quantity of Renvela. The trouble is, I can't afford more than 4 per day. I could really use 5 or even 6.

I just received word that I've been approved by my insurance company to receive Velphoro.  I'll pick it up tomorrow.  Luckily, the co-pay is only $20.  I'll share my experience with it next week.
