we have one patient that can and will say some crazy things.one day me and a nurse were sitting down after i just returned the blood to this patient,i pulled the needles and he was holding his access.he looked at us and said,,i need some heparin.well me and the nurse looked at each other,we could not believe what he just said,i asked him what did you say and he told me ,,you gave me clotted blood and i need some heparin.well that would be fatal to the patient and the air lock would clamp down on the venous line .you would have to overide the alarms more than a dozen times and work hard to do this.  any way, this patient is just fine,he is just that way.

It is pretty hard to give clotted blood back to the patient.

It might be scary, but at time you do have to trust that the professionals that are looking after you know more than you do. It is always wise to ask what they are doing and why? I have full confidence in my nurses at my unit.
