 :oops; so i'm just curious to see if anyone out there has been in my position. My fiance has been on hemodialysis for 2 years now, two weeks ago I discovered that I am pregnant. All research that I have looked at over the years say that it's almost impossible to conceive when a man in renal failure. This is due to a number of reasons that I won't get in to. I am wondering if this has happened to anyone else out there and if so could you let me know if there were any issues with the pregnancy or infant. Thank you.

Congratulations!  My younger brother was on D when his son was conceived and they had no problems at all.  His daughter was conceived after transplant, and also was fine.  Try not to worry and enjoy this time in your life!

PKD diagnosis at 17
Cancer May 2011, surgery and no further treatment but placed on 2 year wait for transplant
October 2011 first fistula in left wrist
April 2012 second fistula in upper arm, disconnect of wrist
January 2013, stage 5 ESRD
March 2013 training with NxStage home hemo
April 2013 at home with NxStage
April 2013 fistula revision to reduce flow
May 2013 advised to have double nephrectomy, liver cyst ablation and hernia repair. Awaiting insurance approval to begin transplant testing. Surgery in June.
June 2013 bilateral nephrectomy.
August 2013 finishing testing for transplant, 4 potential donors being tissue typed.
January 2014 husband approved to donate kidney for me
March 4th 2014 received transplant from awesome hubby. Named the new bean FK (fat kidney) lol!  So far we are doing great!

Congrats and blessings to a heathly baby!!!  No worries, I done a research myself and it really does not affect males more than it affect females.  Yes, some probably will be affected but not all.  You happen to be blessed with a male on D who was not affected.  Enjoy this time of your life!    :clap;

Dailysis patient for since 1999 and still kicking it strong.  I was called for a transplant but could not get it due to damage veins from extremely high blood pressure.  Have it under control now, on NxStage System but will receive dailysis for the rest of my life.  Does life sucks because of this.  ABOLUTELY NOT!  Life is what you make it good, bad, sick, or healthy.  Praise God I'm still functioning as a normal person just have to take extra steps.

Congrats!

We do have at least one member that I can think of who conceived when her bf was on dialysis.  I'm sure we probably have more!

(We're all assuming you're happy ... is it a happy accident?)

There's 2 guys in my unit who had kids while on dialysis (not literally.. *L*) so I doubt it's uncommon

My husband wasn't on dialysis when I got pregnant, but his numbers at the time were definitely bad enough where he should have been, he was just stubborn and kept trying to work despite being super sick all the time. He ended up going on dialysis when I was about 4 months pregnant and he could no longer get out of bed in the morning to work. 

Our son just turned 4 and he's still absolutely perfect. A little annoying at times, but perfect none the less.

I had donated to my husband about 4 months before I found out I was pregnant (oops!) and my pregnancy was fine, but they did monitor me more closely than other moms, but that was due to me, not my son or my husband. Depending on what caused your fiancees kidney failure, they can actually check the baby in the womb for similar conditions - my husbands was caused by reflux, so they checked our sons kidneys during the anatomy scan (and at every subsequent ultrasound because I was having them weekly because I was classified as "high risk") and everything checked out fine.

Don't worry yourself now! Focus on staying healthy and growing that little gift!! Congrats!!!!  :bandance;

Caregiver to Husband with ESRD.

1995 - Diagnosed with vesicoureteral reflux and had surgery to repair at age 11. Post surgery left side still had Stage I VUR, right side was okay. Both sides were underdeveloped.
2005 - Discovered renal function was declining, causing HBP. Regular monitoring began.

March 2008 - Started transplant evaluation for preemptive transplant due to declining function.

September 16, 2008 - Transplanted with my kidney.
September 18, 2008 - Kidney was removed due to thrombosis in the vessels in and leading to the kidney.

October 2008 - Listed in Region I

May 2009 - Started in Center Hemo
January 2010 - Started CCPD on Liberty Cycler

June 15, 2012 - Kidney transplant from a 43 year old deceased donor
June 22, 2012 - Major acute rejection episode and hospitalization began
June 27, 2012 - Nephrectomy to remove kidney after complete HLA antibody rejection. Possibly not eligible for another transplant, ever again.

Now what?

I think the main issue with some of the guys is not having the urge to have sex so just be glade he want to. I've been on D for over 5yrs and I have a  healthy active 2yr old. I guess I'm just saying long as you do what the doctors tell you you should be fine. Congrats
