Hello All,

it's me again.  back with another query.  hope you are all doing well.

so my blood pressure is normally under control, running on the lower end rather than the higher.  110-120/70-80 range.  when i first go in and they take the standing pressure, it is usually 120-130/80-90 and then during the course of the treatment it gradually goes down a little more.  however, yesterday when i went and did the standing pressure it read 143/96. since starting treatment i have never had this type of pressure first going in.  also during the entire treatment it was in the high 130s and 90s.  i came home and i measured it a few times before going to bed and it was still in the higher range.  this morning i woke up and the first thing i did was measure it again and it came out 135/95.

There have been no medicine changes, i take my medicine on a regular basis on time.  never miss anything (nothing that i know of).  any ideas on what could be happening or what i need to look at?  any tips, suggestions, advice as always appreciated as usual.

hope you are all doing well and keep on doing well forever.

Thanks

Could you possibly have gotten an increase in your sodium intake? I know that when I eat certain foods that are a bit high in sodium content my BP goes up for a bit. I'd not be too concerned about it unless it remains elevated for a while.

Hi Joe,

thanks for your response.

i haven't changed anything in my diet (which is a whole different story where there is a possibility that i may have lost weight, exact opposite of what i am trying to do) lately but i will put more vigilance on it and see if it makes a difference.  i'll also report how the pressure holds up tomorrow at treatment.

thanks once again for your response.  much appreciated.

hope you are doing well and keep on doing well forever.

My pressures have been up and down this first week of dialysis, steadily rising instead of lowering like I had hoped. I am hoping it has to do with my dry weight being a little high. I have been told that extra fluid raises BP.  If you have lost weight, maybe that could be the case for you? Just throwing an idea out. I am definitely not an expert lol!

There are many htings that affect BP. as mentioned above sodium, or diet as also mentioned. Stress and lack of sleep are also biggies.

Random days with elevated readings which are not horribly skyrocketing are pretty normal. Since you have the ability to monitor yourself at home I would do so for several days. If it goes dramatically higher then get on the phone with your Dr. A day or two with somewhat higher readings isn't so bad, however if it has trended higher and remains there then your Dr needs to investigate.

Keep an eye on it

Have you been more stressed out lately or been annoyed at dialysis?  I find if I'm watching my time left on machine or am figity on dialysis my BP seems to be higher than usual. I don't think there is really a medical explanation for it, it's pure stress related. My kidneys were said to have failed due to uncontrolled high BP at 28 years old. So I have to work at keeping it in check. Just a thought....  G.

Hi folks,

hope you are all doing well.

thanks to everyone for their response.  much appreciated.

Geoffcamp: i don't believe i have any more stress than what i have had on a regular basis.  i have received nothing but bad news for the past 2-2.5 years repeatedly so i think my mind is programmed to think the worse as soon as something negative happens.  the first thing that immediately comes to my mind is "f me.  what now? how many doctors will i have to go see to fix this.  how many pills will this add to my daily dose? how many procedures/tests will i have to go through for this?" etc.  negative thoughts right off the bat.  so i always carry a wee bit of stress with me all the time haha.

Speedy1wrc:  thanks for the response.  yes i have been monitoring it regularly at home.  every hour to two hours or so.

Update:

so here is an update from yesterday's treatment.  the BP was back to it's normal range.  nothing extremely out of bounds.  don't know what exactly happened there but i was happy to see it back in line.

however, i am not entirely relying on it so i am going to continue measuring it over the weekend at home to make sure it is still in line.  this morning i measured it and it was 120/91 and this was before i took my bp meds for the morning.  so i was relieved to see this number.  i will continue to keep an eye on it and hopefully it will behave.

thank you once again to all of you for responding and sharing your thoughts. i am really grateful for your time.

hope you are all doing well and keep on doing well forever.
