Yesterday was the 4 th and final attempt in gaining access for hemodialysis. The drs cannot figure out why none of the surgeries are working, but they say it's pointless to try anymore. Now I have Pd or live donor transplant as my options. I am a big beach person and I am afraid that with PD I won't be able to swim or go to the pool. I have read many conflicting reports on this.  Would love to hear some real stories from real people. Thanks. ???

Hmmm...  I have heard the ocean is okay to swim in with PD, but personally?  I wouldn't risk it.  Do you have options for a live donor?  Have you thought about trying another vascular surgeon?  Someone who deals with difficult cases?  I hope you find a solution:)

I have had 6 attempts at a fistula or graft. I've been using a chest cath for years for hemo. I go swimming with a water proof bandage and clean thoughly when I get out if the water. Every single attempt for me clotted within a matter if days!!  The only advice I have is take care of a cath on your own. Never let staff touch it or uncover it at dialysis. Since I learned to do that I never get infections. I invest in 3M water proof bandages a d use them instead of the crap dressings they give you in center. From time to time the cath will need to be replaced usually they move it from one side of my chest to the other. My labs are good and I just live with it. Like you I have no other choice. I personally hated PD. All the boxes and every single day is a dialysis day. I never felt as good as I do on hemo with the chest cath. Just my experience. Good luck, there are ways around everything!!  Just have to get creative!  G.
