What is the point of getting a flu shot every year, if it's only for that one strain of virus?  I've had a horrible cough, high fever of 102.5 all day, aches, and vomiting for two days.  I called my nurse and she said that here in Indianapolis alone, there have been over 300 cases at the local ER's (about 3 of them in my area)!  I'm dreading D tomorrow since on Tuesday I felt like death and had to stop treatment and go home early!  :puke;

If any of you have it I hope you get well soon!  Ugh, this is awful!

I haven't had a flu in two or three years.. I've been crediting that to the flu shot.. I think what we get in Canada is different than what is given in the US, though

I, myself, didn't get the flu this year. But I work in a hospital and the ER has been constantly busy for the last couple of weeks. Which is unusual for us, being we are a very small hospital. The bigger hospital a couple towns over is maxed out. They've been sending people to us, even! It's crazy how many flu swabs we've gone through. It's become an epidemic, literally.

I was in bed boxing day and we were both struggling, It was a crappy Christmas. We both had the flue jab. Two weeks on we are just getting right although we get exhausted easily. WE NEED SUNSHINE.

Yep, I had it. My husband, fortunately, has managed to dodge it so far! (keeping fingers crossed!)

It's tough because they have to decide what strains are going in the shot about 9 months before flu season. For most of us with chronic problems, the flu shot won't keep us from ever getting the flu but hopefully we get enough protection to stay out of the hospital.

Feel better soon!

Just saw on the news that this bad strain is included in the flu vaccine.  So go get it!  I did in October.

Just giving y'all a heads up, there is also a bad stomach flu going round now, as well. So I suggest carrying some hand sanitizer with you and washing your hands often as you can. :)

Unfortunately, since influenza is a VIRUS, all the hand sanitizer in the world won't help one iota. Sanitizers only work on bacteria....

I started with the flu bug going around, and now have the stomach flu...including gastroenteritis.  I felt like I was having a hot knife jabbed into my stomach last night, and woke my 2 year old up twice crying in my sleep!  I went to the ER this morning and had to have IV fluids because I was so dehydrated from throwing up and dealing with my "other end" all night!  Funny how, us Hemo patients can still get dehydrated!  I got some morphine for the pain and some protonics.  I had an x-ray and my stomach is so swollen on the inside that the doctor said it was crazy that I waited 24 hours with all the pain I must have been having!  My fever is at 101.3 :(  I just had my boyfriend wipe down EVERYTHING in the house with Lysol wipes.   :puke;
Hope everyone stays healthy!  It is not fun at all! :'(

Hand sanitizers do work on the flu virus and most viruses generally (rabies is one that they do not work on). The alcohol in the sanitizers harms the outer shell of the organism whether it is a virus or a bacteria. The CDC recommends the use of hand sanitizers.

I think you're thinking about antibiotic medications.

I'm really worried about the flu. I can't seem to get my WBC count up. Currently WBC is 1.6 and ANC is 0.9. I had another neupogen shot today but I'm scared about flu season.

We all got the flu shot here. Flu started here in Mississippi in Oct. Jon is sick with some kind of cold now, and don't know if its the flu. Some people are getting the flu even though they had the flu shot, because I saw there is a 4th strain of flu going around that is not in the shot. Plus that stomach virus you all mentioned, its a noro virus and they are terrible! We haven't had it yet, but its just spreading throughout the US now. I betcha its the same norovirus that Hilary Clinton got that made her so sick. Its one that many many people are ending up in the hospital with because of dehydration. We have a 10 yr old living with us now and its only a matter of time when he comes home from school with it. There are no vaccines to protect anyone from a norovirus.
