Out of curiosity could someone please tell me what specific lab tests would show that your kidney function is improving once you are already on dialysis?  I thought it was creatinine but I have read here about  people on dialysis who have a creatinine under 2.0 so that must not tell the whole story.  I know there are some rare occasions that kidney function can improve where a person need less dialysis and I'm wondering how a person can tell by looking at the labs.  Thanks in advance for any input.  John

Once you're on dialysis, the best way to measure function is a 24 hr creatinine clearance. You collect urine for 24 hours and they analyze that plus blood they take the day you bring in the urine. This would be done on a day you don't have dialysis.
