I think Frank swallowed a basketball.

Hello.
IHD Friends. Have a question. It seems that Frank's kidneys are now beginning to shut down completely. He is peeing far less now, and the Lasix does nothing anymore. He is now retaining his fluid in his belly instead of ankles/feet which makes him uncomfortable. What causes the shift in the location of the fluid? Is the belly fluid "normal" in dialysis patients? (None of this is normal!) Thanks for info/advice in advance.

I was told that men commonly carry the fluid in their belly.

yes I have heard that men carry the fluid there as well. I myself am different too, I don't get it in my ankles.. mine is all in my hands & face. I have been that way ever since I started dialysis. Guess it depends on each person.

mine tends to go to my upper legs, which I think is weird.. my feet, ankles, and hands are fine, but my upper legs are almost double the size of my lower legs.. when I first started HD, my upper legs were so full of fluid that my lower legs couldn't hold the weight, and I wasn't able to walk without the aid of a walker

I get swelling in my feet, ankles, legs and lower portion of my abdomen. It becomes uncomfortable at times especially if I lay around for a long period I will get up and my tummy looks like its crooked. I don't think it's to much to worry about but discuss it with your doctor may just need to take off a little more fluid. Best wishes.

I get puffy around the eyes, that's really the only place that I retain fluids. They always check my ankles/feet and there's never fluid there.
