They do suck!!! My last one hurt for 3 weeks. I couldn't straighten my arm for that whole time. I was beginning to think it was permanent. I hope you feel better soon.

I concur!! The first time at dialysis and they infiltrate me 3 times!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My arm hurt and bruised the whole upper area. Looked like I was wrestled by a gorilla!  :boxing;

It completely shied me away from D until my friend came with me to convince me to do it. Thank the heavens they didn't give up on me.

The second time I got stuck I had the mother of all infiltrations my whole arm was full of blood and the pain was unreal, I also couldn't bend my arm for at least a month and wound up having to get a catheter jammed in me until my arm healed,since then thank God,I've never had it happen again.

Yes they do suck & hurt, but over time they get less & less as your fistula matures.
Have you tried heat after ice? That always helped me out.
Good Luck & God Bless!

Ice helps the swelling and heat helps the pain. Try alternating 20 min ice- 20 min nothing -20 min heat. I infiltrated my husband 2 weeks ago and feel so bad about it.  The worst part is if he was in-center he could sit around and curse the tech that did it but instead he has been super sweet about it....It was better when we had someone to curse! :)

ive been doing d for 5 years, when i first started it happened allll the time, at least once a week, and i was so used to it that i didnt even bother with it. now that ive switched clinics, it hadnt happened in a few years, except small ones that were caught way before anything major happened, just sore... this one hurts like hell and is swollen like no other. i cant bend my arm, because it happened to be right next to the bend in my arm!! i really do take for granted using both my arms lol

ill try alternating heat and cold, but i always thought that heat made blood run?

the heat will break up the blood clot from the infiltration, so I have been told.
Stringbandbeth is right.. I was always told to alternate ice & heat. That has always helped me!
Good Luck & I pray things get better!
