Hubby has been on dialysis since last April.  Today I got a bill from Davita for $738.00 for the billing period 8/1/12 to 8/31/12.  ???????  Between Medicare and his healthcare insurance supplemental, I can't imagine that this would not been paid by insurance.  We are either at dialysis, doctors, or hospitals and I can't imagine that his deductible for this year has not been met.  Billing office as closed today...have to call in the AM.  Any ideas what this could be for?  We did not do dialysis at any other centers in August.  I am also going to post this in the Medicare/Insurance section....thanks....

That would be in the ballpark for the 20% not covered by Medicare - especially if you had 14 treatments in August. Do you have any explanation of benefits from your secondary, his healthcare insurance supplemental? Since you haven't received a bill for any other months I would guess this is something a few phone calls will sort out.

This has popped up a few times for us. It was always because of an error in coding. Call Davita billing and ask them to check into it.

You cannot tell me that those who only have Medicare have to pay the 20% that Medicare doesn't cover.  Who could afford that!  They tried to pull that on me saying that Medicare covered so much and my secondary insurance covered so much but I had to pay additional.....  Screw that I told them I'd quit dialysis and they wouldn't get a damn dime.  I never heard another word from them.

I'm glad you're not having a problem but in fact all Medicare beneficiaries are responsible for the 20% Part B not covered. Most people have a secondary; insurance  in Washington State there is a high risk pool that can be secondary to Medicare.
