Something for preventing colds and sore throat?

I'm curious if someone can give my any tip on how to prevent getting a cold or even a sore throat. As some of you might know, I'm a 22 year old guy that has been on dialysis for a year and hoping for a transplant quite soon.
I know that the best way to stay healthy is to do sport, but lately my hemoglobin has diminished a bit once again and so I dont feel the strenght like to go jogging. I'm sincerely tired of getting a cold each 2 months, thank God that the one that wanted to attack me now, disappeared after taking some oral cleansing.
Is it perhaps a good idea to take orange juice? or even vitamin c?

Well since a cold is a virus, there is are measure to try to prevent, but sometimes it can not be helped due to someone else sneezing or coughing. A Sore Throat can have different causes, but in both cases the best preventive measure is hand washing, use of hand sanitizers, not touching face (eye/ eyelids, lips/ mouth, and nose, wash hands before eating, use a paper towel to open doors. Basically anywhere someone has touched can lead to a cold without proper hand washing. The meds over the counter help withthe symptoms once you have a cold or sore throat

I'm still pre-D, but rarely catch anything. When I do catch things, I get very sick. A simple cold can cause a 103-degree temperature and knock me out for a couple of weeks, so I try very hard to avoid them. I think the key is partly environmental. I work in a cubicle farm and most of my coworkers are remote (in another state), so most of our contact is over the phone, IM, and email. Viruses don't transfer through any of these.
I try to keep my home reasonably clean. When I see friends, it's usually out walking or something, so I'm not in an enclosed environment (house) with other people very often. I use disenfecting wipes fairly regularly on things like phones, computer mouse, and keyboard, and I do the basic sanitation things like keeping my hands washed and keep my hands away from my nose/mouth/face.
I'm not sure the evil eye I give to people who come around me when they're sick helps, but it can't hurt. If it doesn't scare away the germs, maybe it scares away the sick people.
Orange juice won't do anything but raise your potassium level and potentially cause fluid overload if you overdo it. Vitamin C won't do anything for a virus. That's just an old wives' tail.

If you could find out how to revent colds, you'd win the Nobel Prize for Medicine. Rhinovirus mutates all the time.
For now, wash your hands and don't touch your face, nose, eyes, etc.

Dear Deanne, I noticed that when I tell people not to come, when they sound ill, or say they are ill, that they can't come, cos I would never want to blame them for me dying.

what's your protein like? I find when my blood protein levels are low, I'm more likely to get sick. Also how are you sleeping. Trying to get at least 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep a night. Our immune systems are lower then most due to dialysis. But you aren't eating or sleeping well, your just kicking your immune system down more.
Also good hygiene helps as well, so wash those hands. I also disinfect the common areas in the office during flu season, once a week, usually at the end of the day, when everyone goes home so they don't think I"m a freak. Think about how many hands touch the common office fridge or door handles. yes i've become a germ freak.
