Has any one had a "Talc slurry Pleurodesis done?

Hi every one, to put you in the know it is a procedure that my husband is having this morning, it requires a stay in hospital over night. Basically it is done when fluid is building up in the lung. He has had three fluid drain offs in the last 6 months and it still keeps filling up, making breathing difficult. This procedure is to drain his lung over a period of hours and then they puff sterile "talc" into his lung which is supposed to stick to-gether and stop the lung from filling up. There is a 50-80 chance it will work. People have issues with fluid build up in feet, face, ankles etc, he has them in his lung. Has any one had this procedure done and if so did it work. Please keep your fingers crossed for us.

I'm keeping you both in thought and prayers. I've never heard of this either. Learn new things everday here. Thanks for sharing how the procedure works. Hoping it does what it is suppose to and is a complete success.

Got hubby out of hospital this lunch time. It takes a few days for it to kick in , that's if it does. The lung has got to learn to expand again. He is very sore, last night he could not sleep, he had a thick tube coming out of his back into a drain and then he was also on the cycler, he said he felt like Quasimoda. So fingers crossed, his next x-ray is in two weeks.

billybags, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you and your huband that it works. My mother had this done, twice and it didn't work. the option they are look at now is putting a tub from her lung to her bladder so the liquid will flow out. His your husband a diabetic? My mom was told that this problem happens mostly to ESRD diabetics.

Thanks Rain but he is not diabetic. He was told pain would be good in the next few days, it would show that it is working. to-day he has had pain but it could be from the procedure. I asked the question, "if it doesn't work the first time could he have it done again" The doctor said it would be pointless. So fingers crossed.
