Well they said that I have a vein bigger in my right than my left...I though "duh." I hope that is not where they put the fistula. Don't they typically put it in the lessor dominant arm?

I then went to the Nephro after for my monthly appt and he talked to my son about transplant. I have to call the transplant coordinator on Monday. He also prescribed me phosphate meds and an anti-nausea. Also more blood tests.
Went to the Lung doctor today for my coughing and breathing issues and he wants blood tests on auto-immune things. He said all the symptoms I am giving to him sound like auto-immune issues. He mentioned Lupus...ugh. Then he wants a CAT scan of my lungs, take my nose stuff and continue with the Zantac. Oh and get this he wants me to have my primary doc stop or change my Lopressor. Okaaaaayyyy sure.
Anyways all of this was overwhelming and put me into an emo mood. My daughter showed me a blog she made today about how she is thankful for me and what a fighter I am...that through me right into a crying jag. Ugh. All of this just sucks.  :(

You don't need all that crap thrown at you in one day.  Just take it one step at a time.

If you tell them you are losing your insurance they don't throw as many tests at you    :rofl;  JK

Awe MamaG, seems like something all the time, doesnt it!  I agree with Rerun, you don't need all this at once!  As for fistula in your right arm, well yes, if they can't see the advantage in the left, they will put it in the best place to get good flow.  My husbands is in his right arm too. I thought like you, "what the heck, why in his good arm?".  But it was definately the best place and his works perfectly.

It could be your veins in left are too weak or thin or possibly some neuropathy in it.  I don't know, but if the right arm is where VS thinks it will work best, then there is where it should be put.  The ONLY draw back, is J can not needle himself with his other arm, but with his eyesight, it is probably not a good idea anyway! It's ok though, I dont mind one bit!

Have they said when the actual surgery will be, MamaG?
You should do fine, dear.

God Bless,
lmunchkin :kickstart;

I am having my fistula op on April 10th, I too was surprised when I was told that the veins in my left arm are not suitable so will have to have the fistula in my right wrist which is my dominant arm. I am hoping to do home dialysis eventually and am wondering how I am going to manage needles myself !!

My pre-op is the 30th and I guess they will tell me then what they are going to do. I hope it is scheduled fast. Don't want to lose anymore time at work.
Also, I totally agree it was an awful lot to deal with in one day. It has been one of those months, one thing after another. Sunday I woke up with the blood in my eye, my coughing is back and so are the muscle cramps in my calves when I wake up in the mornings. Freaking Statins.  ???
